Tweeter buzz is driving me nuts!

So I have a problem with my tweeters and thought I'd seek the experts on this forum for help. My tweeters buzz whenever I play music at almost any volume. It doesn't seem to be the alternator whine because the buzz happens with every distinct sound played through the speaker. For example, a guitarist might be performing his solo and the buzz would occur with every note that is plucked. Same with a pianist, I'd get a buzzing sound with every note that is played. I have a set of Alpine Type X 17ref's 6.5 in the front and Alpine Type R's 5.25in powered by an Alpine PDX 4.100 amp. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Could be a bad tweeter. Have you ruled out the amp/ground by running a different pair of speakers on it to see if no buzz? Do the rear speakers also buzz?

Rear speakers don't buzz. So its kind of weird, for some songs the buzz isn't as bad but for others it is pretty bad. Could it have something to do with the quality of the recording?

Doubt it is the recording source. I'd point to the tweeter first. Could be the tweeter itself or your wiring. Maybe the wire is pinched or a piece of the metal positive at your connections (insulate them if they aren't) is close to your chassis causing a short.

You can try connecting the tweets to the rear channels on the amp to rule out the possibility that channel 1 and 2 are bad.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I was hoping it wasn't a problem with the recording source, because most of my mp3s played at a reasonable volume give off that buzz. I'm hoping its not a wiring issue as it would be a major PITA to fix. The mid's AFAIK don't give off that buzz, only the tweets do. I'm going to replace the tweeters this weekend and see if that fixes the problem. I'm crossing my fingers that this isn't a wiring problem!

sounds more like a sympathetic vibration. Go to Hobby Lobby and get some non-hardening modeling clay. Put it on the back of the tweeter and around where it's mounted.

hmm, i just replaced the tweeter and i still get the buzzing! could it be a bad deck or an amp? could it be bad wiring?

any ideas? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
