This is what I started with:

This is what I have now:

This is the OEM Midrange enclosure. It's fully sealed on the backside. it has a small port on the front just to the right of the speaker in this picture.

I'm replacing the OEM mid/tweet with some Hybrid Clarus'. Do you guys suggest I replace that plastic enclosure completely with an MDF baffle over the entire hole in the door? My concern is the exposure to the elements. Could I paint/stain it with something to make it weatherrproof?

Is another option a plastic baffle?

I have no experience or the time to learn how to make a fiberglass baffle.

Do you suggest a foam shield (baffle) on the rear to protect the 6.5" midrange from water?

I have 2" of room between the face of the speaker and where it mounts to the door.

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have mentioned I own an LS400. The hole is waaay bigger than the one in the IS but the idea is the same. I'll make a template and then cut it out to replace the entire enclosure.

No need for fiberglassing to do that baffle. If it's flat, then you can just use treated MDF, or you can use HDPE (thick hardcutting board).

hah

i had the same problem when i opened up my door pannels.

i just bought some plastic baffles off of ebay.

they work well. i have a GS though, so idk if they made any for the LS.

there should be some out there, if not then, do what you planned, just draw a template on mdf and cut it out.

that LS must be a badd *** car. expensive too

those oem speakers look good already! thats a THICK surround!!!

I've got an IS300 and made the mistake of buying a set of "adapter rings" off of Ebay. Looked great, CNC, and well build.... except that they were stacked with 1/2" spacers so my mid's would be free air if I used them. Just somthing to watch out for.

yup same here.

they had "holes" alongside of where the speakers were supposed to mount.. wth?

well i just sealed up the holes and they seem to work well, i havnt tried any other baffles, so maybe i could be getting even better sound?
