Letting a sub sit around for a long time

I just got it and don't plan on using it so it might sit around so I'm not sure if I should sell it or keep it but don't want to keep it if it's going to go bad on me

The tc sounds tc2000 12s that I am running were a few years old when I bought them, and they had no sign of any ill affects from sitting around at all. They pound like no other subs that I have ever used.

That "someone" needs to take a tour of any speaker mfgr. And they will be surprised as to how many subs sit in stored boxes waiting to be shipped.

Today's tough suspension on subs, ie, multiple spiders and such, would make it difficult for a saggy sub. i would store any sub facing up, cone towards ceiling for longer periods of time like a few years+

ohh i dont doubt they store subs vertically in lieu of shipping, but its very unlikely they sit for years. as you referred to today's drivers with extremely stiff suspensions, id venture to say that gravity can and will cause some sag over a much longer time, but who nowadays buys one of those to store for that long? lol.

alot of the drivers i have from gefco had been stored for over 20 years and the ones packed horizontally didnt sag,.. the ones packed vertically with cone up sagged quite a bit, but those packed vertically with motor up did not sag in either direction due to the surround apex being level with the paper-pulp flange gasket.

ive fixed spider sag with keeping a small dc current on the coil for days, and sometimes weeks at a time. an ac current from say, a model train transformer or 24v doorbell transformer can do the job but not as well, but it doubles as a great way to break in drivers.

I have some original Phoenix Gold Ti 12's that I bought new in '00 or so....They have been used twice in the last 15 years and sound just the same both times I've used them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Same with some old MTX 5500's I have, for God knows what reason...

is that a tc9 based orion? TC used pretty soft spiders on a lot of their subs. I would have definitely stored those face down. :p Another sub of note with spider sag problems from that period: Power HX2s. Still have yet to see an original without spider sag...Not to mention anything made before the rise of cheap power. That high efficiency has to come from somewhere.
