Kid at school selling 2 13w7's for 600 for both

Can't say I've heard all of those. Have definitely worked a lot with the XXX's. Have worked a lot with the W7's also, used to sell them.
I have a soft spot for JL products because they have been making such **** good products consistently for like 15 years. They have won awards, patented new technologies, and put more R&D into their products than any other car audio company I can think of.

After meeting Manville and the crew and getting the full tour, and extensively demoing all JL equipment, I must say I love what they do.

So it's expensive, so what? You get what you pay for.
If you ever want to I'll let you play with one of my Mags for a day. I'm not saying they will make you not like the w7 but you may feel a little different about what audiobliss is when it comes to simplicity in getting a sub to sound good.

I disagree there. w7's are probably one of the hardest drivers to get it installed correctly. They like larger than reccomended but not too large and reccomended boxes are... well not what they like the most it seems. JL built box vs Home made the home made was louder and cleaner.
Hard to get loud and sound good. 8w7's and 10w7's are all I personally would ever own from the line assumeing I could cheat myself out of that much money with out regretting it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
I disagree. They sound wonderful in the specified enclosures. Just had Woodlawn Cabinetry make my friend a spec box for his 13w7, it really sounds great.

I'm not trying to dog on anybody else's products, I am just trying to say that JL is at the top of their game, they have nothing to prove. They tend to set the benchmark for producing products that sound great and perform without a shlt-ton of power.

What kind of subs were around before the W7 that you have mentioned here?

i somewhat agree with you. it is a hard driver to install..but i was talking from a "highschooler i got a subwoofer because all my friends got one and i wanted to be able to bump too" standpoint. and usually they get theirs installed paying out the *** at a local shop.

w7s or w3s would be the only line i would own from JL..depending on my space

i got my w7 for $200. so it didnt really break my bank much.

When the W7 came out SI wasnt even thought of. That doesnt change the fact that the new mags are simply easy, loud, with perfect tonal quality in most enclosures and cost less.

Bringing up what was around when isnt a fair argument. The larger W7's still add their own twist to the music that I do not enjoy. Is 4 10w7's something I would run if I didnt pay for them? Yes. two 13 w7's? No.

I've yet to hear a w3 with tonal quality but I havent heard the v3's. w0's where nice for what they where, w1v2's where decent and w6's and w6v2's sound GREAT no matter the size. I still dont agree with the price tag on any. For the price of a w6v2 12 you can almost get a Mag 12. For the price of a W6v2 12" and a 500/1 installed at a shop you could a Mag 12 and an enclosure and an amp and if you can turn a screwdriver and run a wire or two install it yourself and have plenty of change left over while it sounds just as good and gets just as loud or louder. For what it ammounts to you could do the same with an IDMax among others.

Back to the Original Topic. $600 for two 13 w7's in good condition, whether you like them or not, is a great price. Reselling them for $400 each wouldnt be hard to do at all. If you want to run them that is a GREAT price.

If you want my honest opinion, they are worth the price....it's like buying a Ferrari. Sure, you could get that new z06 Corvette for much less money and get nearly identical performance, but what would you buy if you had the cash? The one with the hand craftsmanship, good reputation, and ultimately a legendary heritage would win my vote if money was no option. I think most people in real life would take the JL's which have proven themselves and really leave you with nothing to worry about when you purchase them.

The bit about the 12's and 13's adding their own twist to your music is something I'm sure you are imagining. I think if this were true the editors and audiophiles reviewing them out there would have pointed this out. I have never had a problem with the SQ personally.

I am not trying to argue or sound like a dick, I just think there is constant bias against JL products on internet forums, and I think that they are actually rated lower around here than they should be, mainly due to price.

He needs to sit down and listen to a W7 in a spec enclosure with clean power on it and realize that it truly is one of the best sound quality drivers out there.
I've yet to hear a W7 setup that I've enjoyed. All of them have been extremely "boomy". It's like the notes were either way too loud or way too quite, with no middle ground or smooth transition between them. That said; I can't rule out that it was the setups rather than the subwoofer as I didn't install or tune any of the setups I've heard.

On the other hand, w6v2 = //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

JL is right up there with Kicker advertisment wise. go to any highschool where kids have systems in their cars..ask what they have..JL, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate will more than likely be the most that you heard. I doubt you will hear anyone say, much less know, RE, Fi, Treo, DD..
Lol if you went to a highschool around here and asked all you'd hear is sony

Sorry, but the atlas's won't even come close in power handling or output. You have to give up one thing for another . . . . .

i know the atlas's won;t come close spl wise im talkin sq wise imo the atlas sounds better than both the w6 and w7, but every1 has a different opinion on sq, as for me if you can afford JL buy it, but i'll go buy something half price with the same if not better performance then take the 100-200 dollars and buy a fat sack.
