is the FS the lowest my sub will play WELL??

like without wanging out and smoking the back bottoming out etc and so on

the sub is a type s 12 doing ht use off a dayton 250 watt plate amp

the fs is 26 hz - 2 k i think but only care about how low it will play

is it worth the 30 for mdf and other costs to build a box when i should just invest in like a mach 5 audio 15 for 75 $ its a cast frame sub, 3'' voice coil 13 mm xmax etc and so on sounds good for what i wanna do

new box = around 50 total

mach 5 15 and box = 125-140

same amp since its a small space it really doesnt need a whole shit load of powa

i would upgrade to the mach 5 anyway, it would blow that type s outta the water for ht
the only reason why i have not upgraded is i dont wanna get a new amp since i sure as hell dont need a 8 db gain or something lol

pretty happy volume and responce wise but that ho doesnt wanna get low....mabye its the box

any reasons you think it would kill the type s for ht duty?

type s has a lotta punch and gets decently loud.....but i want something jaw dropping low that does it with ease

Home Theater.

And NO.

Fs is free air resonance. It is the frequency at which impedance is highest free air.

and CrownAmps, i was told that you should tune the box either higher or lower than the normal 28-34hz for HT. I personally would like to know if you should tune a box different because you arent putting the speaker in a closed space... well smaller closed space.

In a smaller listening area, you can go with a smaller enclosure. With a larger listening area, a larger enclosure is usually preferable.

I think the term OP is looking for is F3, which is where the low end is 3dB down. That can be just about anything depending on install and location.

last time I heard is that a subwoofer with a fs of 30hz will have much more difficulty reproduce low frequencies than a sub with an fs of 20hz...

lower fs = driver can produce lows with confidence easier than high fs...

high fs = driver will produce lows but not too confident, struggles...

i would look at a low fs driver for home use though...

but all in all...

low-tuned box/power/install > all

That driver would probably work well for that purpose, the Alpine's Fs is too high to be optimal for an HT application, IMO.

As far as tuning, generally speaking HT subwoofer tuning typically varies between 18-25Hz for a system you expect to have serious LFE output.
