Is it ok to turn the Gain all the way up, if sub is underpowered ???

Yeah not to thread jack but I am having the same problem here too, I have an Alpine 9887 deck with IMPRINT software, along with an Apline 1.600 amp and AA Arsenal 12" sub. I have my subwoofer turned to +15 on the deck, my bass to +4, and my fader to -5. I have the gain set to 7/8th's on my amp and my back seats down and it hit hards with the volume 18+ but I prefer listening between 12-16 on the volume. On the highway I'm okay turning it up louder with the added noise but at normal driving speeds I would like it to hit harder with lower volumes, I don't want it blarring all the time, lol.

Not sure what else I can do???? I posted a thread on it but no one replied, lol. I feel like if I posted the title as "Is the gain button a volume button?" I would have gotten a ton of replies (amongst flames too, lol, but at least I would get some decent replies) I know the gain shouldn't be up that high but I also won't ever come close to reaching my max volume. I dunno.

Well, u saw bunch of input in my thread.

Just read through-bunch of suggestions what do.

BTW thanks to everybody for their input.

I have a 9887 and a jbl bp 1200.1 in my car. Gains are below halfway and I don't turn the sub up past 7-10 normally. 14 if I really want to pound. Loud is off, my bass is probably around 0. 2-10" ppi pros and it is doing around 145 db + daily on music. Not sure what is wrong with yours.

if u wanna get a new amp, get the kicker 1000.1. WIll do close to 1200 watts.
I was thinking about it but I really can't afford it at the moment.

What I can do. Is hook the 4 channel amp to power the 6x8's, set the gain with DMM and set the EQs- coz they were all off.

you sure its wired @ 2 ohms and not 8 ohms?

if its wired @ 8 ohms it will be quiet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Well some guys insisted that this sub's specs were wrong and it is in fact is 1500RMS.

So i guess i need more powerful amp but since i cant afford it right now, im goin to set the gains at 3/4 (coz seems like if i go further sooner or later i might fry the sub) and turn some EQs up.

if set up correctly, your equipment should wang hard, no need for a bigger amp, you just gotta figure out wassup? your almost done, just a few gremlins, we all have em.

im sure its ran in parallel in order to get 2 ohm load.

Yeah i guess u right-no need for bigger amp-at least i hope so.

My gain was set at 85% and i had EQs on and let me tell u - u'd hear me coming from blocks away.

But i heard 85% gain is way too much so i lowere it to 70-75% and turned off the Eqs and then my sub was barely breathing.

Reason for me turning off the EQs coz sound was distorted and Bass was overpowering the mids and highs

it was distorted man really. Not clear at all. And im not all about making a noise.

So now after turning alleqs downand turning gain down a bit made me get much clearer sound but my sub is barely breathing. again i just went down from 85% (which everybody mentioned is too much) to 3/4 and lost that much bass.
