Do you not understand the concept of TIME? Time costs money, it's called labor charge.more people are starting to realize they arent getting as good of a deal as what they thought at shops. on equip and installs. the problem is though that with more people doing it on their own the shops are raising prices to cover losses now.
when a shop charges you 100-150 to build a small simple slot port box and then you find out you can build it yourself for less than 50 it makes it hard to keep business.
50% is the good life ive never gotten above 40%Do you not understand the concept of TIME? Time costs money, it's called labor charge.
$150 to BUILD a small ported enclosure is a good price. You realize someone is building to YOUR specifications, for YOUR vehicle, and they more than likely have better skill than YOU, knowledge counts, experience counts. (Disclaimer, by "you" I mean the average consumer that walks into a shop looking for an enclosure to be built for them.) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
I mean shit, Say you have 4hours into design, cutting, building, finishing, and carpeting the enclosure, $50 in materials. That only leaves the labor at $25/hour. Now, you're an installer and you get 50% commission on that and the rest goes to the shop.
$12.50/hour ain't much for custom labor.
People on this site who complain and have NEVER worked in the 12v industry are r-tards...

That's a good question to ask a local shop if you are interested in their depth of knowledge. Ive used that line several times before, just to find out if they even know what Im talking about. A few knew. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gifone shop owner freaked out when i told him i was upgrading the big 3 with 0awg....he never heard of doing that before and gave me this "you're an idiot" look while shaking his head....
You over on tccoa too? I pop over every once in a while.i haven't seen many tbirds with systems that go past the norm. that is why i was interested.

Yesssuuurrrgot any pics? would love to see it
we dont count them out. JL, Rockford and kicker are very nice products and very expensive. the point we try to make is you can get the same boom, and even louder boom for a hell of alot cheaper and dealers dont wanna know about other products they just wanna bogard there sh*tWhen I was first getting into car audio (not that long ago) I had only started reading up on forums and visting best buy and circuit city to see what they had, I decided to check out a local audio shop. I had been referring people to for non audio stuff, because I know they know their stuff when it comes to alarm, cruise control, and head unit installs, I had seen really good work come from there on that aspect.
I walked in thinking JL was teh shiz as far as sound quality went. I asked him If I could hear a w7 10" (10" cuz teh base was faster!) He said sure and showed me the demo wall and looked at me when I failed to find the butons that make it boom. Instead of showing me how his wall worked he said you know, JL isn't really worth the money, (this is the owner and they carry JL!) He said let me show you what rockford can do, and it's cheaper. I followed him out back to the install bay where a lowered (forgot the car) car looked like a 76 caprice was sitting then he turned on the radio and **** it was pretty loud, not painful at all, but louder than I expected. I noticed he had components in the kicks, not in kickpanel boxes, but actually sunk in the floor. I could feel the air coming out of the open door and was genuinely impressed, then he said, soo what do you think, not bad for an 8"? ****ING BLEW MY MIND!!! Then I found it, It was in a custom center console facing the back seats, and it blended with the interior perfectly. I didn't buy anything, I just said thanks and went home and thought long and hard about my misconceptions of car audio. I became a car audio man that day.
(cliff notes)
The moral of the story (^ that wall of words) is not to count a shop out just because they only carry JL, Kicker, and Rockford.
my point exacty!!!don't you just hate it when a new guy comes around and tries to fit in and acts like he knows the culture, your style, and how big your dick is?
