Got Bass?
Hello all! Low and behold i found a car audio forum when i was looking for one of my questions to be answered on google! I've been a member at http://www.srtforums.com since may of last year, on that site everyday, and waiting to get my SRT-4. Until then i have a 05 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS in which i have 2 12" DUAL subs in a bandpass box, with a rockford fosgate 3002 (300 watt) amp powering them. It's my first system, and im still new to the game. I know its kind of knock off brands, but i was going to get either xplod or punch subs, and this DUAL bandpass system kicked them out of the water easy. It hits much harder than i expected, and blows my friends 2 15" xplod's and my other friends 2 12" JL W0's out of the water, i have no idea how (stock headunit btw, for now). Soon i will be doing tint, crap load of dynamat, and a new headunit. I haven't been too speedily been wanting to replace the headunit because my mids and highs are just as good as my lows, i guess I'm just lucky! Here are some pics of my car and system:

Problem:

With massive bass comes massive rattles. Brand new car, yet my sub's can find anything and everything to rattle. Soon i will be buying a Dynamat Bulk Kit just for the trunk to try to cut off all of the big and small rattles. But i have a few questions in regarding to installation. Installation costs are anywhere from $60-$150 in my area for the trunk kit, not even the bulk kit in the trunk, so I'm not tempted to do that, but rather install it myself. I noticed some places however that would lead me to be confused on how to place the dynamat around them or on them. Here are some pics i've taken. On the deck lid, i may have to find something else, because of all the wires and whatever else is up there, even a gigantic black thing. On the back of the trunk lid though, theres around a 2 inch gap between the metal's, so should i put the dynamat behind and on top of that, or just behind, or just in front?

Any other suggestions to make the system sound better would be appreciated as well! Thanks! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Please get rid of the DUALS, dont ever touch sony or the punch RF models.

First off, Sony xplods live up to their name.

And the punch RF models are low end. I would recomend Kicker of JL Audio. Just please get something better the the PUNCH series or sonys.

Oh BTW. Welcome to the forums. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif

To be completely honest, everything you mentioned sucks... everything. Though I wouldn't mind having the Impreza itself, is it a manual?

First off, sell your shit. The dual sucks, it is in a bandpass box. They're made to sound loud at ONE small frequency range, and then everything else sounds like shit. Also, they're tuned really high... so yet again they sound like garbage. I would rather pay a small troll $1 a day to sit in my trunk and hum along to the music than use a generic plexi bandpass like that dual.

Second off, come to us with a budget. We'll help you find the absolute best you can get for the amount of mony you want to spend.

Third. Fuck dynamat. Check out Second Skin, it is superior to dynamat in acoustical dampening properties as well as heat tolerance. I recommend some Damplifier original or Spectrum. Sign up for the forums, and get 20% off your purchases. http://www.secondskinaudio.com

The deadener is very easy to install yourself, I recommend the spectrum liquid deadener... and the spray gun. Then it's simple as cake, and very effective.

Stick around here, and we'll help set you straight.

Anything else, just ask.

everyone is right Dual and sony ****, but there is no use upgrading while you still have a novice ear. Worry about the rattles first and then the lame system.

I'll worry about the system later on, sounds good enough for me for now! With next car will come with the better audio, just looked for something to start out with. Kicker will most likely be my next subs, just don't know which ones, ive always loved what i've heard from them. That will come in my next car. I'm more of a performance guy, so i really can't wait to upgrade. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif Btw thanks for the honest opinions, i'd rather have the pounding than people just trying to be nice! I'll be reading around here for a long time, learning up the information, so my next system won't be a mistake!

Don't spend a ton of money on dynamat for a car you will be replacing soon. Save your money for the next system. Kicker is a good place to start looking but take your time and listen to as many systems as you can before you decide.

As far as the rattles, I've had good results using foam weatherstripping between the seams in the panels to dampen them. Even a well placed towel can work if you can isolate the noise.
