inline fuse between battery and alt.

ok so im about to do the big three and i read that your suppose to use the max size fuse for the wire, not the alt. so my question is......would inserting a 300amp anl fuse between the battery and alt be fine for 0gauge wire? im doing 0gauge for everything under the hood. sorry if this is a repost, i couldnt find exactly what i was looking for.
