I'm new and looking for advice based on my budget.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but i'm not sure, I might just go with buying from the actual store.

Is a box something I could build by myself? I mean, the subs are like $60 each, if I bought all the box material would it be worth building it myself?

Meaning if you buy from woofersetc.com, you still get their warranty that'll cover the product. I'd get the better deals online and have a friend install the stuff. The only problem is for the 6.5"s is I have 5 1/4"s stock locations in my car and a shop was going to charge me $100-$150 just to cut and mod the doors so a 6 1/2" will fit. Something to think about.

Yeah I don't have a friend that can install the stuff though... And I know little to nothing about installation, therefore I almost have to go with them. And like I said, my dad is going to be pretty solid about the anti-online stuff, especially after going to the store and hearing what he had to say.

****, this is expensive as hell haha. I am willing to spend $1500 of my money, but my dad is being really annoying about it.

And I need some opinions on the equipment he offered me... mostly the subwoofers. Are those subwoofers any good?

And are rear coaxials necessary?

You'll find a lot better stuff if you buy online and your dollar will go a lot further. I've actually bought from amazom.com and trchronics.com and I think they're great. I received the product within about 2 days, in perfect condition, plus they offer their site warranty which most of those bigger places such as woofersect.com, onlinecarstereo.com, and techronics.com are good about.

I actually know someone who I'm getting my stuff from who can help you out if your interested. He beats woofersetc.com's prices by a lot and he 'll match or beat just about everyones prices. I just want to see you get your dollars worth and the only problem is you'll have to pay shipping.

I would tell you to go ahead and take your time and install it yourself and than you have the pleasure of saying you did it yourself. You will be much happier. Shoot I would even come up there to help you that is how much I love installing now. After I did my first system I was hooked.

Alright, then I guess it's back to the drawing board. I'll ask him how much installation would be if I bought the stuff online and then brought it to him to install. It really shouldn't change the price of installation, considering he already gave me all the installation prices.

By the way, do you guys recommend that I get a pair of coaxials for the back doors or is that not necessary?
It'll depend. If you have people riding with you at times, it's probably a decent idea, or if you want the full surround, then it's good. It's not vital. Personally, I wouldn't go without it, but I'm an exception on most. A cheap pair of decent coax's is never bad though.

So, what they proposed to you - honestly, the subs are shit. Those are absolute shit. Don't go with those. Not to mention expensive as hell. The local audio shop around me will sell you a pair of kicker CVR's, the 400 wrms upgraded model, with a good box, for $350. That's way overpriced.

The head unit is pretty decent. You'd be happy with that. The components, however... I'd stay away from the rockford comps, and get a better pair. The coaxials aren't going to matter as much, but you could get a bit better for cheaper.

If I had to throw out 5.25" recommendations, I'd probably go with something like these:

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=4169

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=7077

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2710

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3943

Depending on your budget, ofc.

Those are products I've heard good things about, and that would be definitely good speakers. Others can throw out some other recommendations. If you want to stick with the store, look into the focal, but I'd imagine those would be a hell of an expensive purchase retail. Otherwise, there's not a whole lot of options that I know are good. Doesn't mean there aren't, but I can't provide too many recommendations there. JL is good, but expensive. These are a bit more than what they recommended, but honestly, it'd be worth it.

Subwoofers, now... To stick with the store, I'd say look into something like the Alpine Type R's. Maybe some of the pioneer subs could be decent. Otherwise, I'd go cheaper with the rest of the recommendations here from online. Just don't get something like those kickers. -.-

The amplifier, decent, but it doesn't put out a lot of power for the subwoofer channel. You'd be much better off with two separate amps, a 4 channel amplifier, or a two channel for the front speakers, running the back coaxials off the HU, quite a few people do that - it'll save you a chunk of money, and it won't affect sound much at all. And then a mono block amplifier for the subwoofers.

What about this:

System...

Installation...

  • Amp - $300.00 (assumption)
  • Speakers - $100.00 (assumption)
  • Head-Unit - $50.00

  • INSTALLATION W/ TAX: 488.25 (assumption)

TOTAL PRICE WITH SHIPPING/TAX/INSTALLATION: $1311.38 (about)

(That's about $200.62 less than before.)

Please review what I have above and give me some opinions. Also, how are two subwoofers powered by a mono-amp? Shouldn't that be 2 channel, one for each sub?

Hmmm. I don't honestly know about the Alpine comp set, someone else'll need to chime in on how good those are. I personally like the Diamonds, and I've heard plenty with the Rainbows on their quality, but I'm not too sure. The Alpine's would probably be pretty good though.

The subs, however - I hear good things about the upper model type R, but I don't hear much at all about the Type S - doesn't mean they're bad, but I don't know if they're good.

Ehh, ****, we're getting out of what I know. Someone else needs to come in here and chime in a bit more, who's heard these.

HU looks good, the amp is good, the only thing you'll need to look at is making sure to run it at 4 ohms. The amp won't take it kindly if you bridge the back two channels for the subs at a lower rating. One of the reasons its good to get two separate amps. As long as you do that, though, it should be good.

Wish I could help you more :/ I'm pretty much going by hearsay atm, not so much technical knowledge.
