I'm new and looking for advice based on my budget.

As if I haven't explained myself enough.

This is my first system ever. I know little about car audio. Buying from someone that randomly approached me on an online messaging board is probably the last thing i'm going to be interested in. Originally, I thought, "Hey, who knows, maybe it'll work out", but i've decided that I just want to do this right, being my first build and all. Maybe sometime in the future when i'm more knowledgeable and capable I will think about it, but for now, and the near future, I plan to go with an authorized dealer that I can be assured will get the job done correctly. Also, by seeing the professional method of installing and such, I will learn a whole lot.

Bottom line: Sorry man, but i'm not doing it.

NO DEAL.

Lmfao, I'll post pics or send them to ur cell phone once I get my stuff from him if that relieves some of ur anxiety. Just thought I'd try to get u quality stuff for ur first system. Of u add it up for the 6 channel amp, focal components and jl audio w3 subwoofer, it comes up to about $850-$870, leaving you plenty for a nice cd player wiring and installation. I understand ur hesitation but after talking to eric on the phone it relieved any apprehensions I had of buying from an online source.

All I'll add is I'll side with roper. Someone trying to put big cuts on prices of items, already cut down in online stores, and that is supposedly an authorized dealer, supposedly with warranties, is not going to happen. That suggests illegal activities of some sort, and even if it is true, it's not something to chance.

Now, few things here. Like where it's going. My only comment is to make sure the back speakers are also 5.25" speakers - it might be that they're 6.5" speakers.

Also, a possible option to save money, if you feel you're cutting it close, you could get a slightly larger two channel amp for the front - there's a kenwood 2 chan for 60 RMS apiece, which matches the BA comps for the front, and you could run the back off the head unit power. An option there. However, that'll only save you $20, so imo I'd go ahead with the 4 chan, but then again, I personally like the rear fill
Besides the speaker size, to double check that, it all looks nice and good.

In reference to the electrical, you'll have two subwoofers, each 4 ohms, and those wire in parallel, so the 4 ohms + 4 ohms goes down to 2 ohms when wired in parallel. All I was going to explain earlier was the parallel, which, to not go mathematically in it, if the subs are the same impedance, it'll cut it down to a fourth of the combined resistance. Series adds the two resistances. Which puts it to 8 ohms when wired in series.

At 2 ohms, 500 RMS, so 250 to each sub, and they're rated for 300, that's pretty darn good. When you get it all installed, check back here for how to set the gains correctly on the amplifiers (it's not hard, nothing to it really), so you can prevent clipping the amplifiers. Which is basically when they try to put out more power than they can.

I understand all the concerns but he's friends with authorized dealers so he gets everything just above cost. Then he turns around a makes something like $30 per item so he passes the warranty and the cheaper cost of the item on to you. I wouldn't beable to afford the nice stuff I'm getting for myself my brother and my dad otherwise. Personally I'm spending a couple grand with the guy because I know he's legit and in talking to him and seeing how passionate he is about car audio made me go with him. Personally I just wanted to see roper get the nicest gear for his hard earned money and this was just a suggestion. Roper turned it down so it's water under the bridge, not big deal.

Thank you for understanding. I think I may have finally chosen my system by the way... (see wishlist from a few posts ago)
Yep, it'll sound good there. The BA comps will be pretty nice. Just make sure sizes are all correct.

For the subwoofer, are you going to build your own box, or have them do it? It's easy to do if you want to do it yourself. I'd recommend not getting a prefabricated box. It'll be a bit more expensive, you'll have to add on the cost of them building a box, (unless they include that in the installation fees), if they do it though.

Now, I'm off to get my system put together. Going with the rainbow components up front, my new car (had my honda accord totaled by an idiot - found a nice used Infiniti G20) already has tweeter mounts in the frame, perfect for those, and the spots down in the doors for them. Makes it really easy for me. Sticking my kenwood 6x9's for rear fill in the back, on my 4 chan amplifier (hifonics, cheap, but moderately reliable). Adding in the subwoofer later, but I'll figure on being happy with this for a while. The new car is taking away a big chunk of my funds -.-

Have to say I'll be a bit envious of you though. Especially as I had two JL 12w3's (older models, but still), but blew them -.- They sound good ^^

Awesome, sounds like a solid system Pluto. Happy to know that you think mine will be nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

As for a box... I have been talking to someone about a design, I actually just finished measuring my trunk dimensions for him. I plan on building this myself, it doesn't seem all too hard.

Are there disadvantages to having a wedge box or can they be just as good as the square boxes?

The reason I ask is because this is my trunk: (dimensions not exact, they are rounded)
