Ok so i recently sold my old car to this kid here in town. It was a 1992 Dodge stealth. I sold it to him last night and he calls me up a few mins ago saying he put 100 miles on it and it threw a rod. The car when it left my position ran perfectly no rod or bearing noise to speak of and the dipshit just calls me telling me I need to compensate him for blowing the motor. He claims he hit 5k on the tach and it threw a rod. So wtf am I supposed to do now. Ive never sold a vehicle before and Im ****ing clueless.

Yea I was warned by my boss to put as is on the recipt. We both signed it and we both have a copy. Now hes pissed at me because he (my guess over reved the car and threw a rod) and I wont "compensate" him for his ignorance.

well its a 17 year old car, and shit happens. I'd say he's SOL.

he bought it and threw a rod...no way a car will throw a rod at 5k unless the oil wasnt changed or was low...
Oil wasnt low. It was about 1k over the mileage for a change and I checked it before he came and picked it up that night. This was his first car and anyone who knows what a stealth is knows they exactly user friendly cars.

so you say he is a kid, well we all know how kids drive thier sports cars. unless you gave him a warranty the sale is "as is".

i bet he had it peadel to the metal all most the whole 100 miles.

You know he went out and beat the **** out of it.

I sold this kid my piranhas, and as soon as he left I said he was going to kill them. He calls me an hour later saying they're dead, and he wants half his money back.... lol. Uh no?

I was asking him questions if he knew how to take care of them, or ever had fish and he acted like he didn't want to talk to me, or something. Whatever, I wasn't trying to be his friend. I just didn't want him to kill the fish.

As is clause or not I wouldn't give them a dime. It's a used car. Once the money changes hands and paperwork deals done.

Thats why the test drive it before hand. If they know what they are doing they can gas it while holding the brake to check the bottom end. Dollar at the tail pipe to see if it has a sucked valve etc. If they are not competent mechanically then they should have a mechanic check it out.

You aren't a car lot and probably didn't offer them a warranty. So tell them you will see them in court.

his loss

/thread

he signed the receipt with the words AS IS on it. Tell him to take you to court for the cash if he THINKS he can get it (not gonna happen) Im sure he test drove it, looked it over, listened to it etc. Theres no way in h3ll you can KNOW a rod is going to break in a motor. It happens when it happens.

You are fine, dont worry about it.

Had a similar situation happen to me, car died a week after I sold it. Had I known, i wouldn't have sold it, but I had no clue and thats just what happens.

The people threatened to sue, but had no case. As is the same in your situation.
