i need a little installation help

i have a soldering iron but i'm not sure exactly how to use it. the directions arnt very good on the box. please dont tell me to get someone who knows what they are doing to do it becuase i'm gonna do it anyway. it looks to me like i'm supposed melt another piece of metal on to the wires to weld them together but i'm not sure what kind of metal to melt. could i use a paperclip or do i need a certain kind of metal. thanks

you need this stuff called "solder" to melt onto the 2 wires...
