I installed a sub, now my speakers crackle!!!!!

I am desperate for some advice here.

I have a 2001 Ford escape, with a Pioneer DEH-P4900IB stereo. The Pioneer stereo has been there for exactly 1 year. Last week, I installed one 12" kicker comp. sub with a 200W Alpine amp. Sounds great!....EXCEPT..... there is a crackling sound in the stock ford speakers now. It doesn't happen constantly, and sometimes, it only seems to happen when I'm driving, but other times the annoying faint pops continually sound. Just for experimental purposes, I turned off the sub on my headunit, since it was the only new change to my car. The popping still persisted.

Then, I pulled the fuse to the amp, so that there was absolutely no power to the amp/sub. The popping STOPPED. I plugged the fuse back in, and the popping started.

There were no pops in the sub, only the stock speakers.

I am really confused here, as I haven't had too much experience setting up car audio.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!! Thank you SO much in advance.

Justin

It's not that sort of popping though. I've heard blown speakers. This almost sounds like a dirty record on a turntable or something. It's not the physical vibrating sound that the blown speaker produces. Plus, when the volume is turned up, the pops don't become more violent, they just stay within the sound of the music.

I've been investigating power issues, such as the ground and stuff, but I'm having no luck with that. It all seems fine.

Okay, well (a.) there is a money issue, (b.) I'm not displeased with the sound and (c.) I don't want to add more equipment when I have a pretty serious problem. The speakers are not the problem. They sound fine when I disconnect the power to the sub. absolutely fine at all volumes.

thats interesting. if they sound fine without the subs connected then.. i really don't have an answer for that one. maybe one of these vets will

Well hey thanks for trying man.

I'm just so frustrated. I can't figure it out. I have this nice sub, and when connected, I can't listen to my MP3 player, radio, or CD's without a TERRIBLY annoying crackle. So FRUSTRATING!

Okay update:

It appears that the crackling only happens when the car is running. If I just run off the battery, it sounds fine. But when I start the car, the popping starts.

I also took a friends amp and tried it with my sub, and it did the exact same thing. I am so confused.

Well as you already know its not the amp ( you tried a dif amp and it does the same thing) . Here is what happened ------- You hooked up the rca's to the amp ,then hooked up power and ground .When you hooked up the power you got a little spark .Bam you blew the fuse that pioneer uses on thier grounding side of the rca's . So here is your fix ,take back the radio and get a new one , or you can soldier a speakerwire to the ground on your rca's( thats the outside, not the inside nipple .And ground the speaker wire to a good ground behind the radio .This will fix your problem .Next time you install an amp always connect the rca's last .If you did this it will never happen again. Let me know if this helps .
