HT Guys, need some help. Bad.

Not bad, pretty **** cheap too

And I would suppose that will get plenty lout enough? I know it should on the bass...but highs/mids?

That entire list comes to roughly 620 shipped, not too awful

Would I still need a dedicated sub amplifier?

I would look into some decent "used" speakers if you have a local shop that sells them. Something with horns, like Klipsch, will get VERY loud and usually don't require a lot of power, so a budget 2 channel receiver should do fine. Go out and demo some stuff and see what you think is loud enough and how much it costs.

Put your DIY efforts into the subs. 4 of the PE 15's would be decent, but probably not killer loud and would also require pretty big enclosures. Couple of MJ18's might be better.

I had 2 15" Tempests in a BIG sonotube off 500watts and measured 127+dB @31.5Hz. That's loud enough in a house to have neighbors call from 5-6 houses away to complain.

Indeed. A pair of used Heresy II's and a vintage integrated amp like a NAD 3020 or Marantz 1060 would be all the volume he'd need for the "mids and highs" (****, I hate that term), and given the right room conditions actually sound pretty good.

Hrmmm
Think about it

Anybody done a 140+ at 30 in their house yet? :) haha, sorry had to
Its a LOT harder to get those numbers in a room...
To put it into perspective, it takes two 12s in tapered horns, one per corner, and 800 watts to break 130...room was moderately large...cars are small enough so its a lot easier...

Meh it happens - what term do you perfer?

I think I got it figured out though:)

Doing a DIY oriented substage, but buying bookshelf speakers.

Cost me a little more than I wanted, but I can control everything I want to and still havea decent surround sound with plenty of **** output

I'll post links and whatnot in a minute if anyone is interested to know

Sorry guys still a cluster****, completely new and excited about the home thing, I type too fast for my brain to keep up
Anywho, Meade did do something like this, but I think he did Four 18" Q's or something of the like, something pretty **** ridiculous. I saw the vids and the design, if I could afford it I would but I'm not on Meade and Chicken's level, unfortunately. I can build the tower/cabinet whatever the hell its called, but I will need a design.

I'd like to keep everything as close to $1,250 as I can, everything included with me building the box.

Right now I'm figuring on, if I go with all dayton(woofers and all)

400 for Dayton Plate Amp

120 for Highs/Mids

250 for Dayton subs ( http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-130 )

So I have hte rest to work with for wood, the cables I'll need, the plans, the receiver and CD player. Give me some more ideas please ladies and gents

And also I'm not much of a fan of those Dayton subs, they dont look bad by any means and I'm sure they sound good, but will they give me the output I want?

it was not 18" Q's it was 15" BTL's. Here is a link if your interested....

(edit: it WAS Q 15's but when chicken saw the "weak magnet" LOL (his words) we ended up upgrading and doubling the power......so if you see Q's in the link thats the story //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Eh, at least I'm not a complete idiot then, huh?

And yes I'm going to do a full 5.1 with a strong substage, and just use it for listening to music as well

It's quite a bit out of my pricerange, but I'll throw down my choices. Please let me know what you think without getting eh, too rude?

To start off, four 15" woofers

http://www.diycable.com/main/product...roducts_id=659

Next, the Sub dedicated amplifier

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=022

Now for my EQ and Sub Crossover

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=007

The Bookshelf Speakers (2 pairs...refurbs but good price and warranty)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=005

The Center Speaker (refurb as well, good price though and warranty)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=007

My DVD/Blu Ray/CD player

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=011

And Finally, my Receiver I decided on...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=018

So, critique away. I really am NOT looking forward to the making of this box, it's going to be a **** experiment and a half....fun though I'm guessin

Total price is roughly 2500, with my dedicated substage...before wiring, glue, mdf, aeros, and all that fun shit

So yes, I doubled my price range, but I think after all I will be happier doing it this way and just doing it right the first time

I think the DIY full 5.1 or 7.1 would be a bit much for me...

Whatcha think
