HT Guys, need some help. Bad.

it gotsta bet LOUD
part of LOUDness is the intimidation factor of having 7 drivers per speaker. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
IMO its much more impressive to have 2 measly drivers blaring crisp music.

Or maybe its just me.

I definitely agre with you. But I don't think the average person would think so and the OP probably want something that LOOKS impressive too. Also if it is going to be turned up loud, then more drivers = less power into each one = less distortion.

I'll stick with my TM's with solid drivers, a well designed purpose built custom xover, nice cabinets, and bi-amped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif...

There's a difference between a shitload of drivers just put in there to make noise, and a properly-built line array...

Course, I'm partial to the KISS approach too, who needs TM's when you can use only one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So I take it you like my crossover... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Okay...here we go

Although it was stated poorly, my main idea of my post is that I had no effing clue what I was doing, as 99.99% of you can tell.

If one cabinet is enough, then one cabinet is enough and I can figure out how to do it that way, it's not a big deal.

This is not home theater, this is simply a party tower, so to speak. Simply for listening to music.

The 12 Channel - what the hell was I thinking. I saw tons of power and the ability to put multiple speakers in the towers with the ability to control them. Sorry guys, as stated no clue what I'm doing, only thing that I know is that the Dayton mids and tweets are supposed to be **** proven, so I chose to go that route.

In regards to the subs .... no clue.... I was assuming that since it was being used in a setup relatively the same to the car, tuned to 30, that I could just pick up some relatively nice 15" Car Audio related subs, thus the SD 2.5's or the custom RD's or something along those lines. Hell with that power I even thought about going cheap and doing two 15" Kicker Comp VR's, ha. They just have no quality whatsoever

Give me a suggestion for the receiver, if you folks dont mind.

And in all honesty, is four mids, the tweeter, and the two subs going to be enough? You are welcome to laugh at me if you like, I have never done this before and I wnat to get it right.

If I go the route of the receiver and then just the one plate amp for the subs, do I honestly need to get an EQ or anything?

Once agian, help. Thanks for the input and sarcasm so far, gotta love it.

Sorry guys still a cluster****, completely new and excited about the home thing, I type too fast for my brain to keep up

Anywho, Meade did do something like this, but I think he did Four 18" Q's or something of the like, something pretty **** ridiculous. I saw the vids and the design, if I could afford it I would but I'm not on Meade and Chicken's level, unfortunately. I can build the tower/cabinet whatever the hell its called, but I will need a design.

I'd like to keep everything as close to $1,250 as I can, everything included with me building the box.

Right now I'm figuring on, if I go with all dayton(woofers and all)

400 for Dayton Plate Amp

120 for Highs/Mids

250 for Dayton subs ( http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-130 )

So I have hte rest to work with for wood, the cables I'll need, the plans, the receiver and CD player. Give me some more ideas please ladies and gents

And also I'm not much of a fan of those Dayton subs, they dont look bad by any means and I'm sure they sound good, but will they give me the output I want?

Those aren't subs, those are woofers...

IMO you just need to put the checkbook down and start learning, you have a lot to learn my friend...It will cost you dearly down the road if you don't...

It looks like you just want loud, so as suggested earlier, just go with some PA woofers and compression horns, and some subs...

Here are two suggestions I might make.

The first is a full range speaker that is not only very tunable to most rooms, it will provide large amounts of base flat to around 22hz. Furthermore it is factory upgradeable. There is a lot that you can do to these speakers. Perhaps it might be a touch out of your price range and does not include amplification or source but worth a look.

Second is a pair of sub arrays that someone has already gone through the trouble of making. These "should" suit your bass needs. You could mate these with some diy bookshelves and be rockin. Oh one last thing, this guy is located in GA too. All you have to do is pick them up.

Good luck!

Did you remember that there was only one zero after the "12" in his price range //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Really good options, but those are in a different league to what this thread is about //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I read "1250". I figured that he could pic up a pro amp for the subs maybe and a basic reciever and some starter bookshelves and maybe get away for around 1500.

I guess part of the lesson learned is that this really doesn't come cheap. If it were my $$$ I'd pay a bit more to gain the ability to learn from my system (vmps) but also have a bit more long term flexibility. I personally see no point in spending any money at all if I'm to be forced to spend it all over again in replacements.

That's just me tho.

Granted I have a LOT to learn, as of this time it's not what I'm after. I'll be starting my new job in a couple of days with Coke and I soon start the process of getting on with UPS. Once I'm on or have been with either company for more than a month or two, I'll worry about setting up a full HT, and that's when I'll start my serious reading.

You will have to excuse the ignorance, for now.

I honestly want to come out as cheap as I can with this, the rooms not that big, but I wanted it relatively loud.

If I can get away with 500 dollars, by God I'd love to do it.
