Well first off Im new here and will probably get flamed for this post but here goes.
Life will be this guys biggest revenge. If he is the type of person to break into a car and steal someones belongings then he probably doesn't have much to lose as it is. Eventually he will try this crap and cross the wrong person IN THE PROCESS and get a severe arse beating or worse. It's kharma...u reap what u sow.
If you do take revenge just remember what you have to lose and the people around you. This guy could be packing and blast you....then who has the last word? or you could get the beating.....is it really worth it. Also if you fukk him up and the cops look at his record it'll show him as a suspect in your property crime and then you'll automatically be a suspect no matter what the time lapse was. Then you could catch a charge and get some jail time and be someones biatch. Also the cops can seize your computer or get the records to this site and read all this and that won't help your cause. The stuff he took is property nothing more....you need to move on.
If you really want to get even you need to locate the model/serial numbers to your equipment and give it to the police. They track these things and enter them into a national crime database. If he pawns them or the cops come across the stuff...it'll show up as stolen and he'll get arrested. It also just might be the lead to link this guy to other crimes. This doesn't mean you'll get all your stuff back but you'll get restitution if he's found guilty.
You do what you want but I for one would hate to see you or anyone else get jammed up for an amp and some tools and some pride. just my .02
