How much is too much?

Would a Soundstream TA1.2000D pushing 2000W @1Ω be too much on 2 Sundown SA12's? I hear of people putting that much and more power on these subs, but I will be buying my amp tomorrow, and it is time to decide. The same amp can do 1,300W @ 2Ω. I can get this amp for 230 bucks new, so it is high up on my get list.

Nope. You will be fine. Just set your gains with a DMM or O-scope

Thanks man. That was my thinking as well. So long as I don't get wild with the gain and bass knob, I should be good.

One more thing, my power wire will only run 10' in an S10 pickup, would I be good with a 4 Gauge knuconcepts amp kit?

Set the bass knob at max then set your amp. Then you can turn it to max. You won't go past what you have your gain set at that way.

Gotcha, and thanks. What are your thoughts on that 4 gauge knuconcepts for a 10' run to this amp?

Those sa are said .tp be better than the obsidian subs. I ran my oas on 1200 rms each worth no problems. I don't see y the sa wont take 1200. I have also seen YouTube clips of sa's on 1500+. Proper gain setting methods are a must though. In the right enclosure i wouldn't be afraid of putting the whole amp to one sa but i play hard with my toys

Check a amp draw chart for wire sizes. Knu tends to be larger than true spec so u may be fine with the 4ga.

This. I'd run 1/0 and be done with it. Usually 2k amps call for 1/0

Alriht, I got a 0 gauge kit and a 0 to 4 gauge reducer to go into the amp

So much for that. I ordered this amp 28 Dec 2013 and as of today, the vendor has chose not to ship out the product. I have canceled the order and expect a refund. Before I reorder the same amp through a different vendor, I hoped to get some opinions on using another amp instead. This Soundstream made 2000W @ 1Ω, would an Alpine MRX-1100 that makes 1,100W @ 2Ω be enough to power two Sundown SA12's?

I wouldnt wast my time on the alpine ..try to find somethin around 2k at 1ohm ..keep a eye out in the classifieds..whats ur budget?

If ur wanting to stay in that price range id go with the ppi bk 1800.1 or the ppi s2000.1 unless u can come across. A good used deal

I would think I could get the power I need for 300 bucks or less. I won't buy used electronics.

Then go with one of the ppi.s they are both under 250

both will do quite. A bit more than the alpine
