how many layers of deadener needed?

well her's my $.02 i go for about 40 % coverage to eliminate vibration

and then brace overly flexing panel accordingly / i.e. mdf you roof /wait i already suggested that but if you want to but 3 or 4 layers of deadner have fun

p.s. deadning will not "keep the sound in" as all you door seals and handles will need to be re-sealed thats where you lose air/pressure

thats why truly serious competiors ave non functioning , bulletproof windows, and some still ratchet strap there doors shut

butyou will be better serve with bigger weather seals and a solid rear window
well i know i cant get it 100% sealed up not too worried the main thing i want to do is quiet the cabin from road noise and stop all the **** flexing and vibrations that you can hear inside and outside the truck. Especially the roof its really annoying. If i do mdf on the roof how do you secure the mdf to the roof?

You can get at flexing by using an extensional damper like a liquid or you can glue strips of metal or wood to the skin. We can learn a lot from what some of the extreme SPL guys are doing, but their solutions aren't going to be the right choice for the vast majority of daily drivers, even for those that listen at very high volumes. You want to pick and choose from all of the options available to find the solution that meets your needs.

true, so wood and metal securred to the panels would be the way go for flexing and vibration and then deadener to block the noise from the outside and try to hold some noise inside?

What do you mean about a barrier linning the area below the bottom of the glass line?

Most vehicle noise - engine, exhaust, tire and a good bit of traffic noise strike the lower part of the vehicle. You can't do much about the glass and there aren't many noise sources coming from above. That's why it seldom makes sense to install a barrier on the roof.

It seems like "deadener/deadening" can mean dampening resonance and/or creating a noise barrier.

One term used for two very different things can get confusing.

well i was talking bout the roof since that is where all the noise comes from on the flex you can hear the roof just flexing and vibratiing like crazy. I figure if i deaden that with deadener it will stiffen it up and make it heavier and stop most of that and the noise that comes with it.

As far as blocking the outside noise i knwo the floor and the back wall lots of noise comes from.

i use wood to stop vibration my spl vehicle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

edit: just read what others said lol

resin strips of Baltic birch across your roof //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sounds like a good idea.

So i was thinking of doing rammat BXT II its 54-56mils thick i believe.

I was gonna do 3 layers on the roof, 2-3 layers on the back wall, 2 layers on the floor and 2-3 layers per front door and 2 layers per back door. How will that work out?
