how many decibels does an extra sub add?

stupid noob question I know and I'm sure there is not a definitive answer, but generally speaking, all things being equal

going from 1 sub to 2, same amp, same size enclosure, how much more output will i get?

By same enclosure size I hope you mean doubling the enclosure size

well basically I'm in a situation where I can use the entire trunk area for a big enclosure but would like to save some money and was wondering if the extra sub will yield that much more output, about 300watts driving the sub or subs

If you arent adding any power or airspace...then I wouldnt put 2 subs in an enclosure meant for one of those subs

If you double everything sub/enclosure size/power, then it will roughly double the output on a basic system. If you just add a sub you aren't going to gain anything, and may actually lose output due to there not being enough power to play efficiently

I went from one hdc3 12 off a nine.1 to four 10's off the same amp and I gained a big difference in output

1 sub with 1000rms vrs 2 subs with 1000rms shared = 3dbs max. factor in you have enough room to fire same direction and same enclosure size with port area. 3dbs would be a perfect situation.
