How can I cut down on excursion? 2400RMS to HDC3 Copper

I have tried two boxes with my 10" HDC3. First was 1.6ft@36hz, 26in port area. The second box is 1.3ft@35hz with 20in Port area. The second box helped but I still get a noise that sounds like the dust cap is wrinkling not really the coil to back-plate sound that i've heard a long time ago with other subs but it just seems like I could turn it up more except for that noise, it gets louder and louder but the noise comes in at about 2" total excursion.(DJ at AQ said let them play up to 3" total) Should I just resin the cap a little? Or Try an even smaller box, 1.1 ft, 20In port area 36hz tuning? Anyone heard this noise in other subs and is it OK to just let it play like that? Could it be lack of power my voltage only drops to about 12.1v and the amps are running cool.

Maybe Im asking too much from a 230 dollar sub. Should've went with an aluminum with more spiders or a DC lvl5.

Its a 10 and no the size really is not relevant Im looking for a real box builder/ competitor that has experience with making the box handle as much power as possible.

Im neither of the two you seek, lol. However, I do know two things,

(A) DJ recommends 1.2 to 1.6 for the 10s, and with your power, id stay toward the low end on things.

(B) Thats alot of power going through the copper 10s, maybe lower your gains perhaps?

Well I dont think I want to try something exotic like that abc box but thanks for the idea. I guess I could I have enough boxes I could test that. Maybe I should just test and test with port plugs and box fill with extra wood, but Im wondering if anyone has heard this sound in their subs, its not noticeable in the car just with the trunk open looking at the sub.

I think I will try putting some wood inside my box to try to drop it down to 1.1 but that will raise my tuning

Until I looked at your sig, for all I know you could have had a 15.

my 6th order had pretty low excursion useing 2 pr-12's but it was pretty big

I thought about trying a 6th order, but I would have to put a small window in it to make sure im not over excursion.

the sub might not take that much power in a 6th order.the pr's did great in it but that might have been a fluke

i heard that small nosie in 2 15 p2s after the cone started to pull apart from the coil and only made the nosie at high volume with hatch open

The sub is a few weeks old I think its broken in pretty well it got louder the first few days, I just had it out of the box and it looks to be in good shape.

yea these were a few years old but i did a 138.9 sealed at headrest with 250 going to each car off one battery

Are you using a subsonic filter?
