I know in my vehicle the sub has a lot more excursion when the doors are open or the windows are down. You gotta remember your vehicle is a box itself in a sense.. a bandpass

could be unloading the sub a little when you open the trunk,,but that should lead to more excursion so i got no clue.

Yes im using a subsonic on the orions, with no intelliq boost though. It really gets loud when I drop that subsonic down towards 28-30 but then the noise comes in so I wont let it do that Til i figure it out. I will try tuning to 34 I think that will help. Yeah vids tomorrow.

As long as the subs not making any real loud noises is it ok to just let it make the slight noise?

Tune it between 36 and 40hz. That will minimize excursion in the region where most bass lines in rap music are, between 40 ad 50hz. The sub has the least excursion in the vicinity of the tuning frequency because thats where the port reaches its maximum efficiency. I had a 15" HD3, and it was in 4.5 @ 40. When I played bass lines near tuning, it moved about 1/2" at full volume, but it was thunderous. Also, make sure you don't have too much port area that causes the sub to unload prematurely.

Well it seems to be doing this even at like 37hz with my 36hz tuning.

if dj says you should have 3'' peak to peak and the noise is happening at 2'' that means there is some thing wrong.check the triple joint very closely.,the sub in my avatar failed at the triple joint and made some funky noises,like squeeks

Ok I will do an out of the box test to see if it makes the noise out of box tomorrow, along with vids in and out of box. Maybe its ok, the sub is moving very very fast I cant imagine the dust cap not making noise its pretty flimsy.

Thanks for the input guys but at this point I better get more data before help. Unless someone has hdc3's and pushes them with over 2k rms and says they make no noise at all then I will suspect somethings really wrong but Ill do more testing and vids tomorrow.
