Hey guys,

I'm looking for a HO Alternator for my 00 Acura TL and so far I only found 2 options. The first would be to take my alternator out and get it rebuilt by Ohio Generators to 190 amps for $300. However, I would need to take it out and would probably take about a week til I get it back. Don't think this is really doable.

The second option is an Alterstart Alternator. Has anyone heard about these? Are they a good reputable company? They have a direct bolt on HO Alt for the TL.

It's 180 amp Alternator for $300 and an extra $25 for a 4 gauge power wire. Is this required or recommended? Also, is it normal for Alternator to acheive full power at higher RPMs? It says it produces 80 amps @ 800 rpms and 180 @1800 rpms. Is that normal, does that mean I can't play my system loud at a traffic light?

Any other companies that sell TL Alternators that you know of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys for all the great info. Anyone else know any other options?

monte_carlo97, Ohio Generators number is 330-875-6677, ask for Tom

or Gus. And if you want you can mention Austin's alternator upgrade for the TL. He is the one that contracted them to do the rebuild. Say he is a friend of a friend or something. If you have the time for a rebuild, Ohio Generators are the way to go.

Hey Guys/loserpunk,

I just talked to a guy over at Alterstart and they said they recommend 4 gauge power cable for the Alt unless you are running it more then 6 ft. The Power cable gets run to the battery correct? So mine would be less then 2 feet away. Should I still get a 2 gauge or stick with what they recommend? I checked out http://www.weldingsupply.com and thaey are considerably cheaper. for 2 gauge it is the 2/0 correct? It's says it's 1.69 per ft. Should I get like 3 feet to play it safe?

Thanks

Ummm...2/0 is like twice as big as 2 ga, so that #2 ga. would work fine. You could always try to contact Dominick Iraggi for a HO alt, he has a real good reputation on this forum :).

yeah i got my ho alt from dominick, a 240 amp alt, got it to me real quick, i havent had time to install it because i want to buy a yellow top before i install but i have no doubts it works great

So #2 Gauge is what I need then, What gauge would I need from the battary to the amps? Is that what 2/0 is used for?

And I don't think Iraggi makes anything for the Acura TL and I read that there was some shady behavior with Dominick? And that people were waiting months for their Alternators and getting no response from him. I really can't deal with that. Been there before and Although the product was the best, wasn't worth the lousey customer service.

I'd suggest either http://www.mean-green.com (where i got mine! great customer service and quality) 2 year 300,000 mile warranty

or

http://www.excessiveamperage.com

Both are great! Ohio Generator is good also...BUT i would stay away from alterstart...bad news...bad reliability.

Tell mean-green Rocky Gentry sent you...they're great. peace

Hey man,

I was looking into mean green but I don't think they make anything for my car, I guess it wouldn't hurt to call them though.

I called excessive amperage and shot them an email and nothing yet, maybe I'll follow up with them too.

Now about Alterstart, what kinda bad things did you hear about them? I was really considering them.
