HO Alternator, opinions plz.....

I've had two friends they had them puke on them in less than 6 months. They got the run around when trying to get it replaced...and ended up replacing it with stock alternator and telling alterstart to fukk themselves. peace

any idea on if they had the lifetime or any other type of warranty
(i hate to hear that cus 180 for a 180amp seems like my cheapest choice)
Cheapest is not always the best, you need to find the best mix b/w cheap price and good quality. I mean, you can get a stinger one...great quality...HUGE price. You can get an alterstart one that is cheap in price and equally cheap in quality. The two sites i listed after A LOT of research, more than 8 sites, are the best mix of quality and price w/ mean-green being my choice and excessiveamperage close second b/c i wasn't aware of them at time of my purchase. BUT, mean-green has treated me well, and there service has been nothing short of STELLAR...great warranty as well. peace

Man

I just got 2 quotes for HO Alternators and they are way high. Is this what I should expect for a "good" HO Alt? Over $600 for what I need!!!!

"I have a 170-180 amp direct bolt-on replacement for your application. This unit is a Denso, part # 13692, and is priced at $649. I hope this info helps you in your search for a quality, high output alternator and I hope you have a great day! "

"We have four models that will fit your vehicle. First is the 20-250-43G-1G ($492.00) rated @ 150Amps "HOT" (185Amps "COLD") next is the 20-275-43G-1G ($554.00) rated @ 175Amps "HOT" (210Amps "COLD") then the 20-300-43G-1G ($634.00) rated @ 200Amps "HOT" (240Amps "COLD") and last is the 20-325-63G-1G ($724.00) rated @ 225Amps "HOT" (270Amps "COLD"). All four require an adapter plug ($35.00) for the install."

hey wassup. yea i got a motorcity alternator

i think they re-wound a delco stock alternator for me. costed $160 for 160amps.

ive not had any problems yet, and when the systems bumpin, i get maybe .1~.5 voltage drop on hard hits. runs 14.4v at idle, and stays there without problems. i get some dimming that i can BARELY notice- but that may be from other reasons.

i got some pictures somewhere with it running 14v at idle and lower with a sine wave playing, but i had no way to test the amperage because those ****ing ammeters are expensive (that go over 2amps- i found one that my girlfrieds grandfather had- but it only went to 10amps.

but its working good (over a month so far) -and they respond quite fast.

i got a quote on the motor city, 160amp for 170 shipping. Thinking this might be my best bet if alterstart is no good. Just hoping 160 is enough to support everything nicely. (1600w rms by xmas)

also what about masco electrical. He said he can build me a 160amp for 159.99

You guys are very informative, thanks for all the input.

Req,

Yeah, I would get mine rebuilt but I can't afford to take the stock Alt out. I'd probably use Ohio Generator if I did that. They can rewind it to 190A for around $300. But not using my car for a few days is just not doable.

Still waiting for quotes back from mean green and excessive amperage.

Req,

My bad, I think I read your post wrong. They didn't rewind your stock Alternator, they rewound a Delco stock Alt. correct? Id that's the case they will be considered also.
