Help with sub choices

I've looking around this forum for a while now and have gotten some ideas on what I should look for in a sub, but I'm looking for some more opinions and advice, anything is welcome //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Car: Subaru Forester

HU: Alpine CDA-9886

Front: Polk DB6501

Rear: Nothing

Amp: Alpine MRP-F450 (2 channels for front speakers, 2 channels bridged for amp, 200W RMS@4Ohm)

Sub: JL 10W0v2 in a prefabed ported box.

Obviously it doesn't sound very good to me right now. I can feel the bass, but it's very muddy, boomy, and hurts my ears.

I'm looking for SQ way over SPL. I listen to Rock and Pop mostly.

I can only feed 200W RMS@4Ohm to the sub.

I've got a short list of subs based on my needs and others' reviews:

- ID

- IDQ

- Infinity Kappa Perfect

- DIYMA

What do you guys think? Are these subs pretty close SQ wise? Again, I can only feed 200W RMS@4Ohm to the sub.

Thanks in advance.

You should try putting that JL in a sealed box, IMO it would sound way better for the music you listen to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah that's what I figured, I bought the sub and box used as a package.

My dilemma is though should I buy a sealed box for the JL, or go for one of the listed subs for better SQ.

Also, would either 10'' or 12'' do about the same for my setup?

How much do you guys think a DIY sealed box would cost material wise? 10'' or 12''. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, though I've never done much carpentry work besides putting together Ikea furnitures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Should I just buy a prefabed sealed box since it's not as picky? A 1 cu.ft box should be big enough for most stuff and I can always fill it with something if it's too big, right?

Not sure if I want to venture into ported boxes yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Not hard eh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can I still hear a difference sealed v.s. vented for something like a W0v2?

How is that sub compared to the other ones on the list or even the W1v2? I kind of regret jumping on it before doing more research.

A question about the IDQD4, can I just wire one VC and run it like that? Reason is I can only feed it 4 ohm with my amp.

Thanks.
