help with new sub setup

actually the manual that came with the subs says what their rated power handling is in each inclosure, u can download the pdf at kicker.com if u like for the L7 manual

yea bro... i dont know why kicker put that in there... the only thing that can really change with the enclosure, is how much the subs will actually see, do to box rise... but it doesnt change what they can actually take.

we're not trying to flame you here brother... just trying to figure out why you blew 2 L7's before you drop a nice sum on some pretty new subs

in a sealed box you have back pressure that helps the sub spring back because the air is compressed rather than blown out the port, therefore your sub can handle more power theres a more scientific reason to it, but im not gonna google and copy and paste it

yeah i still think the new L7's are crap, i had an old school L5 in an integar getting 750 watts from an alpine v12 in a ported box, and it took 3 years to blow. they dont have the same build quality
not going to argue with you on that one... build quality has definately been lacking lately with alot of "top" name brands (RF and Kicker mainly)...

but with that said, i still dont see them blowing off 650-700 watts

someone did tell me that in a sealed box its not wise to play your subs with that much power for that long because the heat cant dissapate, and thats why i melt coils, not from clipping, because the longer they play especially on a summer day the hotter everything gets inside the box till it gets to hot and melts the coil

this is also true, but either way, an L7 will take over 750 ported.

ok for the sake of argument, i drive an hour to and from work, 30 mins to and from the gym, plus whatever else i cruise around. it is always played at "max volume" my subs see a good 600 miles a week driving time put on them at a high volume level, if my amps have been clipping dont you think none of my subs would last the 8 months ive had them being clipped to hell

not always... clipping can also cause a slow death for a sub. just really depends on the set up

and we're not trying to flame you maljr, just trynig to be helpful....

but back on topic.... i think you would be really happy with 2 icon 15's, at around 7-8 cubes, ported, and tuned in between 30-35 hz... would sound very nice
