Need a small box for 12 inch Type R

Hey guys...

Right now I'm using an Alpine Type R 2Ohm 12 inch sub paired with a Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-2, bridged to 2Ohm.

The box I have was designed by a friend who knew about box building. It hammers, but the problem is that it's huge. I want to make a new box, much smaller so I can still use my trunk. I know I'm most likely going to lose some sound but that is to be expected.

I want to make a new box (pref. ported) that is literally half the size or smaller. I also want to tilt the speaker back so the box doesn't slide as easy.

The only problem is that I don't know how big the port should be, if I should even use a port or what kind of port. I just estimated the sizes as well. I'd rather make a box that is going to be the most efficient possible for the small size.

Any ideas for the box? I'm open to anything. I just want it to be as small as it can be.

My current box and quick new box design are attached!!

Thanks!!

two problems. one, your Tuning is too high. get that down to 35-40 hz. 47 is meh. two, try and keep it at least 1 feet cubed. anything smaller and your sub is going to fart out its smelly coils.

Type R's sound wrong to me and sloppy in small ported. I've tried 1.75 and hated it, but 2.5 @ 32hz sounded good. Maybe try it sealed or go with a sub designed for small boxes. The box you have looks right, and going smaller will be worse. I suggest 2 SA-8's with a 1000-1200 watts. The 8's will work in a small box.

I'm not going to buy new equipment.....

I would be fine with a sealed box but I'm going to lose a LOT of sound aren't i?

How would I design a sealed box? I have a ton of rattle in my car and the sound quality already sloppy to being with. Sealed will most likely fix both, right?

I'd rather sound quality anyways so I guess the question is, do I just assume the same things for sealed? Over 1.5 cubic feet volume and that's it? Any benefit or disadvantage of using an angled face?

Making a sealed box won't help rattles. Sealed boxes need more power, but can hit real hard. Most people on here act like ported is the only way to go. If you really want good sq in a small space you need new subs. Trying the R sealed is the only way you'll know. Try one Sa-8 with the amp you have. It's louder than you think.

Lol. I'm pretty sure he's content on keeping his type r just changing the enclosure n

Honestly back when I had my old school type r's, I noticed absolutely no different in sealed and ported. Zero. 1.75 ported at 32 and a 1.75 sealed. I could not tell any difference in quality or loudness

My subs I have gotten from splaudio, on the otherhand, **** when they sealed and shine when ported

I suggest buying a cheap small sealed china eBay box for like 20-30 shipped. Yea someone's gonna disagree with me, but just give it a chance. Plus it's only 20$ so **** if for some reason you can't stand it just toss it in the bonfire or sell it on craigslist for $50

Guy's.....

1. I'm not looking to get rid of the sub. PLEASE stop telling me to get an 8 or two... ??

2. Not buying a prebuilt

Pretty sure sealed will help with rattles.... my trunk bounces like crazy and when I turn the box around it isn't as bad.

So need some box ideas guys. More power is fine. I use 7 gain right now and it pounds. I can go to 11

Lol.. Guy.. A sealed box will not magically stop your car from rattling

Either buy some sound deadener or remove the sub from your vehicle or buy a better car

Also.. Gain doesn't mean "power". I suggest reading how to properly set your gain

Gain doesn't mean power??? I know what you mean by power. My point is that I have plenty of juice left and I know how to set my gain.

I have a 2007 300C......... I have sound deadener as well.

The thing is I want a smaller box. Any help with that? (my original question)
