Im fairly new to installing car audio.

I've been wanting to put a sub in my car for some time now and my mate sold me his brand new sub, enclosure and amp the other day really cheap.

I got a JBL Gt4 12 inch 1000 watt sub in an enclosure and a Power Acoustik 4 X 150Watt amp. My mate took the liberty of mounting the amp on the inside of the back of the box and bridging 2 channels and connecting the sub to the amp.

My questions would be:

1) Is this amp any good? i've never heard of this brand before and they don't have the manual on their website.

2) Is it a smart idea to have the amp mounted inside the sub enclosure like this? does it affect the sound? will this tend to cause the amp to overheat easily? do you think i could get away with leaving it like this?

3) The amp is rated at 2 ohms per channel (i think, i dnt have the manual), and the sub is at 4ohms, so the bridged channel should be rated at 4ohms at 300watts? which would be correct for the sub?

Thanks a lot for your help

Tom

on the actual inside of the box? how in the hell did he run power wire and grounds and all the good stuff? no, id take it out, mount it some where else. do you have big holes in the box? thats really not good at all. is it ported, did he run all the wires through the port?

yeh on the actual inside of the box. the power wire and ground wire are connected to the positive and negative terminals that are on the back of the box, so all i need is to connect a power and earth to the back of the box. no the box isnt ported, altho it kinda is now...he cut a hole in the side of it to access the amp, its only just big enough. but he has got some hinges and put the timber back as a sort of door. as for the audio cables, i may have to run them through the door or through one of the cracks around the door. i think he has probably stuffed the box in doing this tho :S it seems like a good idea to have it all concealed but i dont think its the smartest idea in the world.

would you suggest that i take it out, reseal the hole that he cut in the side and mount the amp on the outside of the back of the box? i am trying to keep the amp with the box as i will be taking it in and out of the car often.

any other comments on my other questions?

regards

Tom

yeah this is true, the guy that mounted it is greek tho. so far i understand that i should mount the amp elsewhere. i am planning to mount in on the outside on the back of the box at this point.

still waiting answers on my other questions

cheers

my god, why do that?. a hole in a box ruins sound thats why it is sealed so tight and amde of mdf. also amps look cool so why hide it. id mount it on the top/side of box. maybe the back if you got room.

like i said, my mate mounted it in there, not me. i guess he mounted it there to save space? i am going to take it out and mount it on the back of the enclosure and reseal it all up.

anymore advices?
