h/u crossover vs. amp crossover

cool, one more question, i can turn the amp up or down from the hu, its a pioneer p3900mp, should i turn the gain on the amp up? i was told to keep the bass boost down as low as possible because it reduces distortion, which is same for the gain but since i can control it from the hu?...

As for the crossovers; You can use both or either. It's user preference. Some prefer the headunit as they can just sit in the seat & adjust it. But the amp xover can be beneficial aswell since it should be infinitely adjustable within it's bandwidth whereas with the headunit's xover you must select from predetermined frequencies. And depending on the circumstances it could be beneficial to use both.

The control on your headunit is not the same as thing as the gain on your amp. Read the gain setting tutorial for a start.
