... there is NO such thing as a good pair of 6x9 speaker... do yourself a favor.... buy a 5.25 or 6 inch component set, make a baffle, and get rid of those oval speakers..........IMO

That's what people have been telling me" forget about 6x9s they produce distortion because there's stress in certain points in the cone." Even people at Polk messageboard told me that. I've always owned Infinity 6x9s (not that I think they're the best) and looking to upgrade. I got a tip to buy ADS 6.5" components (retail $299) on sale at ebay for $99. So I went for it. Installed them this week. Great speakers: balanced real well but they couldn't fill up my car like 6x9s and the bass isn't as nearly as good as a 6x9. They were on par with my Polk MOMO 6.5 in the front. I'm going back to 6x9s probably MB Quart components.

Help me out here. What kind of budget do you have? What kind of power are you working with?
