Good rock sub for $200?

A friend of mine is ready to go for a subwoofer, and I'm trying to help him out with it. He listens to mostly rock, so I think a sealed box will be his best option.

What sort of subs would you recommend though? He's buying an SPL Z1X from his buddy for $250 or so, which gives him about $200 for a sub, and about 900W @ 4 ohm, 1800 @ 1.

I'm recommending he spend another $50 and go for a 12" Fi Q. What would some other good choices be?

i like the way rockford subs hit. i think they sound best for rock but im sure someone would disagree. get a p2 or p3

do not get a t1 or upgrade to the power seriers though. i heard accounts or them hitting a little slow

Id recommend an IDQ, absolutely amazing for rock.... but that's too much power, and two would cost more than $200.

Two used IDQ's I could do...or an IDmax.

Also never heard of Cadence. Any specs on these?

An Arsenal 12 would definitely be within reason. How does it compare with an IDQ or IDmax?

i love mine, nice clean bass and gets the lows pretty good. its going off of 600 watts right now in a 2^3 box tuned to 32 hz.

as said an idmax 12 would be great

best sub ive heard for rock and ive listened to some of the fastest metal and that sub never missed a beat

It sounds like he's gonna go for two 12" IDQ's. The IDmax would be great, but theres no way he could afford 2, and it's hard to compete with twice the surface area. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now, box design. I'm thinking sealed at 1.5 cuft for both. He has a civic, so there's not a TON of room to play with. Anyone know with what box these IDQ'S really shine?

IDMAX end of story. Built for rock. But give it no more than 900 watts at 4 ohms and it works great in a sealed box. so get a idmax 12 in a sealed box and call it a day
