I am looking for a good 12" sub and high power amp (300-500 Watts RMS).

I have been considering the JL Audio 500.1 and JLAudio 12w3, it will run me close to $600 off the net (?) compared to e.g. $850 at a retail place like Car Toys. I'd have the box built to my cars specs after I get the parts. About $600 is what I want to spend.

Can you recommend something? I want something with good quality/tight bass; should be loud, but I'm not competing/trying to win contests. I heard the above JLA setup, and it's what I would want. But I also want some kind of remote bass control, as I think I'll want to control this thing separately from my other speakers (don't want to change the HU).

That would be a function of the harness, not the HU, I think. Have you looked into a Maestro or iData interface? i would check with crutchfield...

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage

Don't forget Hoffman's Iron Law. You can have 2 of the 3: low end, efficiency/sensitivity or small enclosure size...
