Give up 15 for smaller sub?

currently have a oldschool kicker solobaric S15C in a sealed 1.5 cuft box. currently running off of 500rms. Amp is capable to 1 ohm at 1200 rms.

I am considering going to a set of 10's or 12's....possibly even ported.

music wise..i listen to about anything depending on mood. some heavy rock/metal, rap, r*b, hip hop......country....about anything. i think with that being said...sealed has always sounded the best...but doesn't seem to get as loud as i would expect.

that is where i am on this 15...i just expected more...but im not going to buy another amp right now. the sub is SVC4 ohm.

i have been looking at a set of vega vmax 10s or 12...probably 10s...

would i be stupid to consider giving up this kicker for a set of the vegas?

any other choices i should be considering.... im not going for spl per-say...just want to get loud when i want it....

budget.....150-200 tops shipped....i know i can get the vmax 10s for that range new.

also, in the trunk of a 2000 bonneville.

The vmax subs are nice for the price. Pretty good build quality and can get loud. They will be louder I'm sure.

OP - I havnt really heard anything about those woofers personally, I would consider a single nice 12" ported woofer for the power you have

1. i think you should find some dual 4 ohm subs, something that'll like 600 per sub.

2. i think you should go ported, which is where i may be able to help you.. (i build boxes locally)

and yes. this is also another good choice.. snag up a nice DD 1512 or 2512, they can be found for around that price..

The single 12 would be my route, probably a Mag or similar

Also, that girl looks very very much like a friend of mine, and man would Ilove to lick her up son haha

Small ported enclosure tuned to 30hz (good blend of SQ for ur rock and SPL for rap)

I loved the single ported 12. I had a FI Q, SI Mag, and DD 2512 all in about 2 cubes ported. The Q would be great with that power, or you can get to 10's as well

i am in logansport...only about 40 min from lafayette.

i was told not to go ported on this solobaric......also in the manual for the sub it doesn't rec doing that...so i just stayed away from it.

i build my own boxes as well....when i have time...2 little ones limits that these days though..

amp is 500x1 4 ohm, 750x1 2 ohm and 1250x1 1 ohm rms.

if i were to find something new, i would be selling this sub as well.

i have never heard diamond subs.... around here seems to be JL....what line of JL sub would be comparable to the diamonds? pm me more info on those and box size and such.

reasoni mentioned the vegas is becausei have always wanted to run a vega sub.....never had the chance to....not saying im stuck on it though.

my rear seat does have a fold down arm rest area too that gives access to trunk..."breathing" port..haha

That old solobaric has a pretty meager excursion capabilitiy. in s ealed systems, excursion (xmax) is directly proportional to output potential (multiplied times radiating surface area).

Get one of these new 'supersubs' with gobs of linear excursion.

RE SE 15" would even fit in your enclosure at the compact airspace.

Huge gains going ported though, IM not sure on the price of one of these.. maybe not under $200

the Fi SSD 10" or 12" is under your budget shipped, 220 with Bp option.

Mach 5 IXl 15" is 220 right now, needs larger box though.heach 5 MAW 12 are sold out now but under budget for 2 of them.

KIcker compVR are 150 shipped form ebay for a pair same as vega Vmax for the 10"

the Vmax is really a good deal in the propper enclosure on 1200 watts it should do what you want.

$200 for 2 subs with 1200 watts is kinda hard to do, you end up lookign at kicker comps and Vmax, or used subs, classifieds still might come through with something awesome...

not at all bad subs in the orrect enclosure, but I woudl love to see you spring for a a Fi Q 12" ported on 1200rms. Sell the kicker first and see if you have enough for the Fi Q then. 259 shipped from Fi.
