I got plans on a 2ft^3 box ported to 35hz from Moe earlier this week. I am going to start building this on friday. I know that I am going to need some clamps and wood screws, I have some gorilla glue. I plan on painting the port black, I might even just paint the entire box, instead of carpeting it.

I read somewhere that MDF doesnt take well to paint and that I should sand the pieces to make the paint not soak in so much.... any thoughts on this?

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks....

I will take pics of progress

i painted my box, sanding helps a good bit, here is a pic of mine before the sub

and here is one with sub in it

i have a few bad spots on there but i am going to add another layer soon because im too lazy now

I used ryno lyner the stuff used to protect truck beds, very durable stuff;) hard to scratch too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

is that like a rubberized undercoating?

see I like how the painted box looks but I dont like the seams on it.... any ideas?

you need to prime the MDF with about 3-4 layers before you think about painting it...

it will soak up the paint like a papertowl

measure twice, cut once - my first box was ugly as hell but it got the job done **** well...

bondo the crap out of it and sand the crap out of it to get smooth surfaces with no seams

Can I just take my box to the rhino place and they would coat it with the rhyno stuff or can I do it myself. Would it be worth while to coat the box with some sort of finish before carpeting it just incase it ever gets wet? Chief

hey cappy u could have hit me up.....i though u knew i design boxes

by the way 2.5cubes tuned at 30hz....that will sound really good in your car and considering the power u have available

you could just go to your local hardware store and get the stuff in the spray paint can

i imagine that would be a lot cheaper than having it professonally done

I thought you were only into bandpass boxes? I thought that a band pass box might be a little challenging to build right off the bat.... I figured the slot ported would be a good first box choice....

question still stands?

no. it's a spray on bed liner. it's like a tough *** spray paint

Just be patient, Always Measure Twice cut once, make sure your joints in the wood are secure with screws and wood gule. You also might be able to use wood puty to fill the seams of the wood for painting, i just think bodo will show up under the paint.

well I am making lowes cut the wood, I am going to bring my measurements there and outline a board, then have them cut the outlines.... the rest of the minor cuts I am thinking about using a scroll saw(???) I dont have a regular circular saw but I might get one and also get a set of horses.

wood glue or gorilla glue?
