Gain settings

I have 2 soundqubed hds2 12's wired to 1 ohm on a audiopipe mini 1500 with a 2nd batt (group 31 die hard platinum marine batt) my friend that sold me the ap amp had the gain at half way and said to keep it there? cause it puts out dirty power at 3/4 gain.should I keep it at half way or would it be safe to have it at 3/4? Just to add I play my highs and mids at a level where they dont clip.I was told if you hear your speakers clipping then your subs are probably clipping too

Your better off setting all your gains properly again with an oscope, and dmm(if you like).

The gain adjustment depends on the output voltage of your head unit. If he has a 2v output and you have a 4v output, you could even be clipping at 1/2. Every setup/ vehicle is different. Set your gain properly with a multimeter and listen for distortion. I tend to error on the side of caution.

Thanks guys.I know the formula for the dmm setting method.I listen for distortion but I dont notice any.I have bass boost on amp and HU at 0.I blew my first sub (american bass xfl 15) from have the bass boost up to high on my amp and I had the gain at 3/4.also I didnt have a 2nd batt.so my previous amp(hifonics glx 1400) was clipping to hell.learned my lesson

Like it was said before every setup will be different u might reach "3/4" before clipping and i might reach less than "1/2" before clipping..there is no gurantee
