gain setting?

i have an SLA feature on my pioneer HU, it goes from -4 to 4. ive always set my gain while this was set to 0 (because it goes to 0 when i set my EQ to flat). today i set my gain while it was at 4, and i reached the desired voltage on the DMM a lot sooner.

so should i be setting the gain with the SLA at 0 or 4? and what exactly does SLA do/stand for?

yes, sla is sound level adjustment

basically you adjust it from each source on the unit to make the volume the same on each source.

When you have it set to +4, instead of volume 20, its actually just like having it on volume 24

EDIT** are you saying to set the gain while SLA is at zero, and then raise it to 4? or are you saying to set the gain while SLA is 0 and then leave it at 0?

if i leave it at zero, my speakers are a lot less loud, thats why i normally bump it up to 4.

Either way, all it does is increase you volume +4

So if you are at volume 30 with the sla on +4, its the same output as if your volume was 4 clicks higher

I think this can be a good feature...

Supose your HU clips at 20+ (I use a Scope so I know exactly the clipping point), If you use +4 and you get a unclipped signal (Like 24) the preamp outputs will give you more voltage, so if you have only one source the best choice is the one that give you more unclipped voltage output.

I don't know a lot of english, so if you don't understand something let me know

don't let these guys tell you to turn it to zero. It doesn't matter. It has nothing to do with the way your speakers sound. Keep it at 4. You probably dont listen to much of the radio anyway so it doesnt matter.

ok, but is it going to cause a problem if i set the gain while SLA is at zero, and then bump the SLA to 4? could that cause clipping?

no, keep your sla at what you want it to be at and then set your gains. .
i guess you have became an expert on car audio in the last month havent you you really need to quit trying to give people advice and confusing them it not helping i think anyone that has seen you around on the forum WILL agree just leave and never return PLEASE

i put it on 4, set my gains, and im leaving it on 4. id bring it down to like zero, but for some reason my mids dont sound as good.
