Hello there. I'm setting my gains using an oscilloscope, but im not sure wich test tone to use.
I listen to rebassed music from XCLSV, Matrix and other russian stuff. I always used a 40hz 0db tone for my bass and 1000 hz 0db for the mids and highs, but i think i have cutout the potential of my equipment. What tones are you using to set gains?

If you are playing a lot of rebassed music, I would probably use a -3db tone.
Some people like using a -6db tone. but with the rebassed music, that could easily cause clipping.

I would just set your gains based off the music. Tones don't represent the impedance changes you get when playing music. Your sub might be getting more or less power at 40 hz, vs say 30 or 60 hz.

Yes you can set the gain to whatever watt RMS you want below the amps max output using that formula.

You can get close with tones, but music signal is all OVER the place in both frequencies and voltages. Like, if you listen to rap, the bass line...
