gain setting check

Sq rt(2000x.5) = voltage....i'd say 31.7 would be better as 31.6 is only 1997 and 31.7 is 2009...unless 31.7 is over 70% of your gain....then i'd cut it back and get a line driver.
Why do you say this? Just curious as I've never heard it before.

First time setting gains under 1ohm, just wanted a double-check before I blow something up.
(2000wrms*0.5ohm)Sqrt = 31.6V

if I messed up LMK please

its something that i recommend since its what ive read is the average upon which an amp starts sending clipped signal to subs.
sorry to thread jack.....

How would a line driver help? I have an AudioControl 4.1i and it has a line driver in it. I wanted to try and get more from my Power Acoustic PS1-3000D amp. I also have two other amps. Sugestions, maybe PM me if you want to help me set this up better. So many variables here...

You can have the gain set 100% of the way up and not clip, it just depends on the input voltage the amp is receiving. The same goes for a low gain setting, you can have an amp clip with the gain set at 20% of the way up (granted it depends on how much voltage the inputs on the amp can handle lol).

Yes, that ^.

CJ, the 70% thing you heard is a very poor generalization to try to keep people from maxing out their gains. Avoiding poor guidelines like that is the purpose of measuring your amp's output voltage with a DMM.

It would be better to just set the gain by ear than going by some maximum % not to exceed.

i do it by dmm..then by ear...only b/c i have no access to a o-scope...but still when i do a customer's car i tell them to leave it where i have it....mostly at 70% cuz the people i do installs for are **** retarded....

proof *quoted from today* i'm looking for a fiberglass enclosure or box for a tc for 2 10s.

me-what 10's

him- type s 10's

me- well i could do it.

him-like premade?

me-no build it custom for the car and sub specs

him-o nvm just need box

me-just a custom box?

him-yea i got 50

me-goodluck with that materials alone are 50+

him-dude their someone selling for 30

me-yea for a prefab that has been damaged probably

me-but go ahead and get it. a custom box will make a prefab look like childs play toy.
