Hi, my sub is a DVC pioneer TS-W12prs, its a 300rms wired to 2 ohms, i have a directed 1100d amp. i used a 45Hz test tone...and the output i set was: 24.5Volts,

and the sub was barrrrely moving y is that?? i went to see an installer he set the gain, and then i rechecked with a test tone and DMM, the output was 59Volts, how is that??? I have this problem with subs all the time, according to the formula the voltage seems to be verrrrrrry low, any thoughts?? thx

another thing, i know that the gain setting with DMM must be done while xovers are turned off, how do i turn off the LPF of the directed1100d, turning it to the right or letf? thx:)

yes, i think its true too, seting it by ear is the best. Well but on a condition( the amp rating power must be enough to drive t he rms of speakers). Honnestly setting the speakers with a DMM was kinda OK, but with the subs, its just such a baddddddddd setting , Geezz the sub was bareeeely moving, i had to put my ears against it, and touch it to see if its working. I learned that the best way is the following: for speakers, i set the HPF at around 150-300Hz and then turn gain up till distorion, t hen back down. For the Sub, set LPF=80Hz then gain up....also we can be playing with the gain/x-over combination together. Is this ok to do?

Lets say i finished setting the gain, we can then use a test tone+oscope to see if t he sine wave is clean:S am i correct?:S thx

well guys, we cannot just put the sine wave tone and use the oscope. We can keep turning up the gains till distortion is seen on the oscope sure, but we might be overpowering the speakers with a clean signal, which also destroy and destort the speaker. Ex: a 300 clean rms, is surely not good for a 40rms speaker. With the oscope we can only know if the signal is clean or not, but what about overpowering? specially if the amp is too powerfull and speakers cannot handle high rms. Thta y i think setting gains relying on my hearing is the best:D

1st thing to do is to find where your HU clips, then you set the gains on your amp to the volume just under clipping.

Now keep in mind that you're not sending 300rms to the speaker ALL THE TIME. Music is very dynamic, it has its peaks/dips. Also, the only time you'll be @ 300rms is @ MAX volume with 0dB material.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
