Is it safe to turn the amp gain control over half way? I was always told not to, but that was 8 years ago....my last system

amp is a JL Audio G-max

& a pair of Alpine R's ported box

the reason I ask is because its just "ok" at a hair under half way up

thanks~

ohms of speaker x rms ( of ethier amp or speaker rating ) whatever one lesser of the to ,divided by square root =what you want your dmm to read when set to ac voltage.

ex. 4 ohm x 75 rms = 300 divided by square root = 17.3

just set by ear, subs are easy to hear and listen. When its stops getting louder thats all your amp can do then back it down just a touch and you are good

divided by square root

Hah. Why would you divide by something's square root? If you divide anything by it's square root, you will get it's square root.

OP:

Set your head unit to 2/3 to 3/4 max volume, then adjust the gain until it sounds good and is loud enough for you. DMM's are for *******.

square root

300 square root = 17.3

vs. the square root

12x12 = 144

144 divided by the square root = 12

see the diff ?

thanks for the links

all hope is gone album has deemed my mirror useless, might as well take it off and use it as a hood ornament

those alpine R's hit clear and loud!
