Free Air Or Sub Box

my question is which makes your car louder or gives more bass, free air or a sub box, also can the RE SX subs be enclosed free air. Thanks

Are you serious? Of course you want to put your subs in a box. And no sub can be "enclosed free air".

well i was hearin that i could like put the speakers in the backseat and the trunk would be my box,you get what i'ma sayin now

That's called infinite baffle, and it's a very acceptable installation method if your subs' design allows for it. Like any very large, low-Q sealed alignment it reduces the power needed to reach Xmax and increases low end response.

umm free air? like just tossing your subs in your trunk then playing them? or strapped them down with something? hmm do research befor you come up with a pointless topic

like strappin them down where the top of my back seat goes, and sealing off my trunk,i know what tha hell i'm talkin bout, this aint no pointless post,i jus need to know will it be louder this way

See the part where he says put subs in the backseat and let the trunk act as the box? Does that really sound like it would work?

I dont think hes talking about infinite baffle, really.

If im wrong, then go ahead and make fun of me, I deserve it.

They need to be properly mounted and sealed to a baffle...either mounted behind the seats or on the rear deck, but yes...it works quite well. That's the definition of infinite baffle.

IB setups usually give very good SQ when properly done.

I gotta laugh. Everyone was hating on that guy that put the drivers in the floorpan, but that is the BEST implementation of and IB setup available in a vehicle. ONce that guy gets some knowledge behind him, he's gonna have some killer setups.

To the original poster, go to this link. It's full of useful information on quite a few "typical" alignments and will help you out as you ask questions so people on here don't complain because they don't understand what you're talking about.
