Forum Install Gurus?

True, but this could get somewhat lengthy and I was thinking E-Mail vs. the forum. I'm also hoping to find someone very familiar with the Mk IV Golf.

I know a few of the answers are here somewhere already, and I've found a couple, but while I'm in no hurry, searching boards for solid info can be a tremendous PITA, especially if they've a long history. My philosophy - research, buy quality gear and then live with your choices. Frankly, I can't afford another hobby.

Anyway, here's one that's got me scratchin' my noggin'.

I've cannibalized three Soundstream DII series amps from a system in an older car. The HU in question pushed 5V while the amps are rated at 2.5V max. No issues for many years. My new HU pushes 8V (16 if I decide upon this in-line gizmo) and I'm wondering, even with the gains all the way down, if I'll execute the amps?

nah, you should be ok. most amps are rated at 2.5 for the base and comparison values. So basically if you send them more volts they will produce the rated power even with the gains close to or at zero.

All right, amps are a go. That puts some cash back in the stash. What about that 'balanced line adapter'? All the better for eliminating RF, or am I pushing my luck with the amps?

I'm all about SQ and stealth in a car audio system, strictly for my own enjoyment, however. I realize one of the primary struggles is music vs. noise, (my new factory hot-rod is an audio penalty box) but I'm only willing to go so far down that road. I'm not interested in adding a lot of weight to the vehicle. I'm thinking doors only as far as sound deadening material, and if I find a need for some in the hatch, at least I can do that easily on my own. Dynamat is all I know, am reading about Edead, what other quality products are there?

Know anyone with a lot of experience working on late-model Golfs?
