Floor Box??

how good are Floor boxes?? caus eim wanting to build a floor box for 4 12 and my Orion amp.. my trunk space is 38x36... most likely /ill build the box 38x 36 x 10 which should give each sub around 1.4 cubic volume, tha is if i did my math correctly..but also i still have to cut out room for the amp, which is 25 x 10.. so im not sure how to figure out the volume w/ this cut.. what do ya think would be the best size and best thing to do?

I get 1.98 cu'/sub (38X36X10X0.00058=7.934/4=1.98)

The way I did my box was to make the box taller (or shorter) to compisate for the displacement of the amp "box". Figure out the vol. of the amp box and plan accordingly.

the formula that i use was L x W x H / 1726 / 4

so am i useing the wrong formula?

ok, i just re did my measuments and all.. ok the inside of the box measurment will be

36.5 x 34.5 x 8.5.. plug that into the formula... 36.5 x 34.5 x 8.5 x 0.00058 = 6.208, 6.208 / 4 is 1.55....so should be 1.55 sq ' but the total box size will end up being 38 x 36 x10 , if i use 3/4 inch plywood... if i use 1/2 plywood, then my measurments would change to 38x35x9 and that would change the box volume to 1.68 per sq '

I have used that formula for quit a while and it has always done me good. I'm sure that they are others out there.

I would go with the 3/4" for the sake of it being more sturdy. I used the width and the depth as fixed #'s and adjusted the height according to the displacement on the amp box and subs.
