Few quick questions regarding my sub/amp and bass settings.

i'm running a single 12" kicker with this amp: http://www.millionbuy.com/prfap1000m.html

my box is 2.5 ft^3 with two 3" PVC pipe ports on either side (horizontally) of the sub.

unfortunately, i bought the 2ohm version sub so it's only able to put out 1ohm or 4ohm (depending on the wiring), not 2ohm like i wanted.

this means at 4ohm my amp will only put out 310 watts:

RMS Output Power(4 Ohms): 310W x 1

RMS Output Power(2 Ohms): 500W x 1

So until I get the new sub version (4ohms that puts out 2ohms) do I need to worry about my amp overdriving this sub? the kicker is rated at 400W RMS and i've been told it can handle 500W easily. So if it's only getting 310W can I put the gain all the way up? I did try it and did not hear any distortion, but I wasn't sure what I was looking for.

It does sound good so far. Right now I have the gain set at 4/7, bass boost 2/7, HU bass 5/10, and the amp remote bass control 5/10. Hopefully you guys can give me some insight as to what limits I can push this stuff too.

FYI, car is a 99 taurus with stock speakers/HU.

Thanks!

Not true. Remember that those power ratings are based on a specific, fixed input, say .5vrms. You can harvest full power from your amp by running it at 4ohm and just increasing the input to a full volt. aka properly setting the gains on the amp.

Any suggestions what the gain should be at then? I don't see how I can hurt the speaker if it's only putting out 310W RMS.

yeah - i've already set my gain correctly (all the way up). i dont hear distortion but I want to hear what you guys think about it.

you need to do a little reading on "clipping"

i would be really careful until you know for sure what you are doing
