I agree with both of you, it does work, but there are more effective means of bracing. By having it like how he does, it's kinda like "passive" bracing because you're bracing the front to the top and bottom, which is braced to the back. Conversely, it'd be more effective to run front to back since they're going to need the bracing the most. top is double baffeled, and the bottom should be just fine.
try it for yourself, then tell me what you find.
