Esitimated gain?

Going from 2 9512s on a 5K

to 2 9912s on a 7K?

Doing a 150 flat right now at 38hz

I'm guessing 3db or a bit more considering what people gained going from HDC3s to HDC4s

This is an impossible to answer by any knowledgeable car audio enthusiast with experience. Based on going from 5k to 7k you'd hypothetically gain maybe 1 db. But that's if the car doesn't "give it up". As far as going from one woofer to another are the 99's more efficient than the 95's at 5k? If so then you will hypothetically gain more in the end. But if they aren't you might not even notice a difference. Technically speaking you have to either double your power or double your cone area to gain enough of a difference for your ear to notice (3db) but even that is NOT a signifigant volume difference. 6db is a drastic difference, 3db is just barely noticeable. Good luck.

Also, do you know if the speakers will even get louder with more than 5000 watts? They may have hit their limits with the amp you already have in which case getting a bigger amp won't make them any louder.

From just looking the 99s have much more throw, much higher BL, larger longer coil, better coiling. DD subs have a very high saturation point so I do imagine the subs will be louder even on 5000.

Well i'm just saying, all of those things are nice but it doesn't guarantee that they will be louder. I would think they might be but to give a clear prediction, it's really not possible. It wouldn't surprise me if @ 5000 watts they have reached their mechanical limits and if that's the case then they won't benefit from more power.

What gains did people see going from HDC3 to HDC4? In my demo set up I gained nothing, in my daily I gained 1.2

I don't see a 3db gain in what you're planning...

well the 99's are a bigger coil, so the gains from 5-7k plus what you'll gain from lack of power compression, maybe 1db. The more powerful woofer might be good for the better part of one more. I'd say 2db on a good day. That's an extra click or two on your volume knob in most cases, like others said you won't hear a huge difference, it's still just 2 12's and your only going to get so much more out of it. Cars usually do begin to lose pressure easier above 150 and that might hurt you too, as someone else mentioned, so yeah, right in the 1-2db range. If it's closer to 1, you'll barely hear much of a change, if it's closer to 2 you'll notice, but not a huge jump either way. If you up your tuning some I'm sure you could squeeze another DB closer to the peak of your car, while losing below tuning. That would be more of a personal preference thing, louder on a meter, yes, louder for real, well not really.. Depends what you want. If you can switch speakers by selling the old ones and not lose an arm and a leg, I'd go for it possibly, but if this a couple thousand extra, personally I wouldn't... At that point I'd be looking into a wall or something of that nature if I really wanted louder as your well into diminishing returns at this point.

I could be wrong but didn't you upgrade from XL's to Level 5's and get pretty much no gain?

A while back I went from level 4 m1s on 2500(38hz) to XL m2s on 5k and gained 5db 10hz higher(49hz). Then went from the XLs to 9512s and gained 1 db 10hz lower (38hz)

All tuning the same in the low 30s.

I think OP is greatly underestimating how hard it is to gain past 150 and over-simplifying the factors that would determine how much and at what frequency you might see gains/losses. As likely as not, if the new subs don't peak at a higher frequency in your box or have lower impedance at your lucky frequency, the extra "2000W" that you likely won't see if you don't have adequate battery bank won't even be enough to overcome the extra mass of a 4" coil.

2db is less than one click on the volume, each click is 3db.

I wouldn't spend almost 1000 bucks to get 2db gain which i can't even hear. But that's just me. If you're just trying to improve on your spl score then go for it i guess.
