Electrical upgrades??

I was wondering if someone could do an indepth outline on how to upgrade your car's electrical system to run at 16volts. I have been thinking of upgrading so that I can supply my amps with a constant 15.5 volts (can't exceed this at the amps for IASCA) and I am not sure what all I need to do.

I was thinking I just needed to get a HO alt that charges at 16v and a 16volt battery, do the big 3 upgrade and that should be it right?

If I am forgetting anything please let me know. I am looking for a step by step description on how to accomplish this.

16v sets actually over 16v (17.3-17.7) i wouldnt run dead 16v batteries to achieve this.....best bet i know of (im not very iasca rule knowing) but kinetik had at least at one time 14.4 v battery banks and they worked pretty well (4 2400's 1 modded)

A modded HC2400?

So what you are saying is that I am able to reach the 16volts I need by running a 16 volt alt and batteries at 14.4?

ok. I am attempting to run 2 MA Audio HK 4000D amps at 15.5 volts. I am allowed to have 15.5 volts accross the amps. I am trying to find out how to accomplish this. I am thinking of installing a HO alt with a variable voltage regulator. I am expecting to have 16 - 16.5 volts under the hood and 15 - 15.5 at the amps. I also want to stabalize the voltage because these amps will cut out if the voltage dips below 12 volts.

My thoughts:

1) Install a HO alt that is 200 - 250 amps.

2) Big 3 Upgrade with 1/0 awg.

3) Install Batcap 2000 Battery under the Hood.

4) Install Either a Batcap8400 or a HC 2400 Kinetic Battery in trunk

5) Chain Batteries together with 1/0 awg wire

6) Install a Batcap minicap 50 (10 Farad Capacitor ) just before the amps.

7) 1/0 power to the amps.

8) 1/0 Ground to the amps.

The MiniCap 50 is 16Volts., the Batcap 8400 supplies tremendous power, and the Batcap 2000 is 2000 CA and only weighs 35lbs. I am just trying to support both amps with as close to constant 15.5 as I possibly can. How do I go about this? I am not to sure of the proceedure. If my outline listed above will work or if I need to add/ change something, I will.

Thanks for you input

across the amps during a burp? as to that is the voltage drop? i just sent away for the iasca rules but a 2 volt voltage drop across wire is ALOT and would be dangerous. 16 volt is also not 16 volt its actually 17v much like 12v is actually closer to 13. engine on or off when burping is allowed?

I am allowed to have the car on. I am also looking to have this install for my daily driver. I currently have 13.9-14 volts across the amp, this is however with only one installed I am looking to install another one. I would like to have 15.5 volts across each of the amps.

Right now, with one amp it is 13.9 volts across the amps and that is with a stock electrical system. When I burp it it is dipping to 12 volts and the amp is cutting out. These amps won't run at less than 12 volts. I am allowed to have the car on when I burp it. From my understanding the voltage of my alt will not cause any major problems with my car's electrical system due to the fact that voltage does not damage, the components in the system that need the extra voltage will be the only things to see the extra voltage. I am only allowed to have 2 batteries and 10 farads of Capacitance (new '07 rules). The car can be running at no more than 2000 RPM's durring the run. I can have 1/0 awg power and grounds per amp. I can NOT exceed 15.5 volts at the amps.

Like I said earlier this is what I think I need but I am not sure:

1) Install a HO alt that is 200 - 250 amps.

2) Big 3 Upgrade with 1/0 awg.

3) Install Batcap 2000 Battery under the Hood.

4) Install Either a Batcap8400 or a HC 2400 Kinetic Battery in trunk

5) Chain Batteries together with 1/0 awg wire

6) Install a Batcap minicap 50 (10 Farad Capacitor ) just before the amps.

7) 1/0 power to the amps.

8) 1/0 Ground to the amps.

Will this be enough to support both of these monster amps with 15.5 volts? If not what do I need to do to support them? I am looking at running in Stock 1 this year (again) I have never had to boost my electrical system to the point of uping my voltage under the hood, so I don't know what steps to take to increase my car from 14.4V to 16V. Any help hear would be appreciated.

Thanks!

AHH got ya. i would get a new alt with adjustable voltage (ohio generator). find 14.4 and 15.5 on the dial mark the points (dont want to leave it at 15.5 as it will eventually bake your batteries) do not get a 16 volt battery it will always be well above 15.5 unless it is dead. when in preperation of competition set up the voltage regulator to 15.4 or 15.5 burp it and when done set back to 14.4 v. batt cap makes ok products in my opinion but nothing to use constantly under the hood. i would contact kinetik and ask about the 2400 and the options they will have for this as if the option is avalible that i think there will soon be you will get a better burst and still have alot of capacity which is what you want in a daily but have alot of burst for comps. the 2 battery limit crosses out the modded bank option.
