electrical system upgrade help please

The OP can go big AGM and big 3/4 and be fine. It's only 2,000 watts.
I agree. A d3400 and a big 3 would fit the bill with ease. If he goes with a battery delete he could 4 guage though. Where as if he just replaces his front battery with a fatty agm he'd be wanting to run 0 guage. Much easier and cheaper to run 4 guage, not to mention the benefits of having the amp so close to the power source. He wouldn't have to worry about his headlights dimming nearly as much either.
Like the OP said, there's countless different opinions and approaches to eletrical upgrades. I perfer front battery deletes but a beefy AGM swap, given proper wire size, will work too.

For a build as small as mine i don't find lithium to be necessary. The right alt and a single d3400 could run my system with no problems. Not to say that lithium isn't better in every way, its just too expensive to justify in most cases. My competition SPL rig has a front battery delete with 140AH of lithium but that system is clamping 10k.

That's exactly what I said.

Feeding a 2K isn't that big of a deal. You might have some light dimming at night. A good AGM will handle 2K.
A front battery delete will have better power delivery and put less stress on the rest of the cars electronics and cost less in power wire. Once again, I'm not saying you're wrong. You can't deny that a front battery delete is superior to a upgraded front battery.
What if his car doesn't have room for a beefy battery? He would surely want to go with the delete in that case.
Even if he didn't do the delete and just added a second battery that would be worse because you would still need to size the wire bigger to account for amp draw from the battery rather than sizing the wire based on the alt output alone.
Ex: If you're amplfier is pulling 400 amps and you upgraded the front battery you would be looking at 2 0 guage runs, regardless of the alternator output. Every battery you add distributes the load evenly. So given our 400 amp example, best case scenario you would be pulling 200 from each battery which would require 1 0 guage run. In reality, the second battery would most likley be bigger than the one up front so what ends up happening is the front battery gets drained at a faster rate causing more amp draw from the rear battery resulting in the need for 2 0 guage runs. The same setup with a front battery delete, given a alt output of 300 or less, you would only need 1 0 guage run. Even if you were pulling 1000 amps you would still only need 1 0 guage run because you're never going to have more than what the alt can put out going through the wire.
Once again not saying your wrong. You're recommendation would work, but I think your disregarding the benefits of a front battery delete. Which for future readers of this thread could prove to be a better solution for their application.
