Electrical issue. Amp shutting down.

My Jl 300 2v2 was grounded to the battery and used to cut in and out at higher volumes but the protect light wasnt on. I made a short ground to the frame on top of my trunk, problem fixed. So it isnt always best to ground to the battery.

The purpose of the ground is to complete the circuit. Whats better, a straight run of cable of a frame full of welds?

I honestly could care less. When the amp was grounded to the battery, had issues. Made a short ground to the frame, problem solved. Did I say ground to the frame all the time? No, but in some cases it seems to work better. So save that debate for someone else

Okay well I double checked the wiring on the sub. Its wired in parallel. Connections look great. Backed the gain down to 26.5 and had a little better luck. Getting ready to try grounding to the frame instead of the battery.

It is grounded directly to the battery.
battery info:

Autocraft Titan

battery group size:48

Size: 11.38" L x 6.88" W x 6.88" H

Cranking Amps: 875

Cold Cranking Amps: 700

120 reserve

Voltage: 12

Battery is in good condition.
Yeah... i dunno .. i think that could be your problem.. try grounding the car.. use a sand paper and remove the paint. then if you can use a metal washer to go around the end of the nut so u can get a better ground.. hope this helps

okay so I grounded the amp to the body on a clean sanded area. Now getting 14.23v at the amp. Drops to 14.10v to 14.12v with music and does not cut out unless turned up fairly high. Im a little disappointed that I had to turn the gain down from 31.6 to 26.5 to get it to even stay on. Maybe Im just expecting too much out of one 12w6v2 d4. I wonder if adding another 12w6 to it might help. Is my amp over powering my sub or is the sub too much for my amp?

Imtjnotu i appreciate any and all input so thank you for trying. If I end up adding another 12w6 I now know to change the wiring on the subs so I dont run 1 ohm to my amp

I could be wrong (never seen anyone ground an amp to the battery)...But I suggest trying to ground that amp to the car body...remember to remove the paint from the spot you plan on grounding it.
my amps grounded to the back battery but the batts also grounded to the direct body. ive never had a issue with it. i figured since my back to batts are ran together

and are both ground to the body then ground the amp to the battertys it would still flow together.

Final update... I was ready to put it all up for sale or trade today when I decided to try a different amp ( DUAL 250 watt ) with the w6 and to my amazement it hit pretty hard. I decided to try a different sub on the amp so I grabbed a kicker comp I had laying around, turned the gain all the way down. I left the gain down and turned the bass boost up and and it hit harder then the w6. Hmmm....... I hooked the w6 back up...set the eq on the amp, turned the bass boost all the way up with the gain still turned all the way off. Problem solved. Good, clean, loud bass.
