So I went on ebay and purchased an Soundstream Van Gogh 400.2 amp. This guy has a 100% feedback on a 140 transactions.

anyways I receive the amp on monday but being as busy as I am I didn't have time to test it until tonight. So I took the amp out of its box and it looks like this.

On the auction it says " I took it out of the box and hooked it up to test a pair of speakers, and it worked great, but that is literally the only use it has seen."

I say to myself hell this doesn't look like it's been only used to test a pair of speakers. and it doesn't look like new. I have a 1600.2 and a 800.2 that looks better then that and their second hand.

Anyways I go and try to install it and test it out. I took out my 800.2 and put the 400.2 in it's place using the same power/ground/rem wires. And I had a voltage meter on hand. And I've had experience installing this particular amp. After installing it and went to reconnect my negative battery terminal and turn on my car. Turned on the HU and then suddenly i see fireworks come out of the amp i turned of my car off and disconnected the negative terminal on my battery. And I see smoke coming out of the amp too. I'm like WTF!!!. It fried my RCA wires.

Everything was installed properly and once I turned on my car and hu. I see fireworks and smoke. Right now I'm pissed.

I emailed the guy already. What should I do? I used ebay paypal and a credit card. I hope this guy got insurance cause right now I'm pissed as hell.

Oooh yikes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif That looks really bad. Hopefully nothing else was fried/damaged.

well, make a claim with ebay and pay-pal. Your purchase sould be covered by $200 or more with pay-pal. Thats why I always use pay-pal. Might take a week or so. Looks obvious that it is NOT as described. Good luck!

If you just bought this last week I was going to buy it but it went a little higher than I left my max bid at and was gone. Pheeew. Lucky me. Bad for you. It is like a crap shoot buying used amps on ebay. I have got some great deals though also.

IMO you need to stay away from Van Gogh's, I've seen so many just fry. Reminds me of the Ref series //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hide.gif.2d479cfd917eedfe201353b91522ceab.gif.

i just got an email from the seller. He said he's never seen anything like that before. He goes on saying that he purchased the amp from someone on ebay a year before.

"I did not get shipping insurance, since in my experience, car audio equiptment, since it is designed for a harsh environment, and I just assumed it would be tough enough to handle being shipped."

What an idiot car audio equipment in a harsh environment. Right no wonder I see people with broken subs/amps/speakers/etc on here.

"If you would like a refund, please ship the amp back to me, and I will refund your money after i have inspected the amp, and determined that it was in fact not working when you recieved it. I know this is kind of a hassle, but it is the best I can do. "

And he wants me to ship it back to him so he can determine that it was not working before I installed it. Yeah right!

It blew right infront of my face as I turned on my HU and smoked. I even took it apart to see what happen to it.

It looks like one of the ciruits fried.

Either that or I send it to soundstream to have it fixed. I'm like shit I already paid $150 for it I want my money back. I don't want to send it back and pay $20 and hope that I'll get a refund. f that or send it to soundstream and have to pay shipping item to there and back to me not to mention the reapair costs. it'll be more then what the amp is worth

Were there not any pics posted on the auction? If what you recieved was not what was purchased and he didn't state that in the auction, then screw paying for shipping it back. Go straight for it and file a legal claim.

I just got off the phone with soundstream and they say they can repair it for $150

But I'd have to wait about 4 weeks for it and I have to ship it too them. Thats more then what the amp is worth right now.
